Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Is it still just reference cards, no custom cards?

Still reference as far as i am aware, Although the XFX black edition with build in backplate actualy looks quite nice, depends on how much dearer it is. They also sell what they call a 'Core' edition which is standard reference.

You did get something good but for a LOT of money!

Yeah definitely...

Then again, i'd rather have a 480 with a stock speed of just above a Nano and OC speed around 5% below a 980Ti... Which is what some of the early leaks were suggesting. That would be a winner for AMD. For me a stock speed of 390x offers nothing more than what i'd expect from AMD. They need to release the unexpected.

I do wonder how DX12 is going to play out also, going to be interesting the results on that side. AMD really have Nvidia over a barrel with async compute atm.

Then again i also bought a HTC Vive today aswell, thankfully wife didn't mind :D

Powercolor has just launched a giveaway for a yet unannounced card they’re launching. The giveaway is part of a teaser involving the company’s new “Devil” graphics card.
Powercolor’s Devil series has always been the comapny’s highest-end single GPU offerings. They have traditionally bore the highest clock speeds and the company’s best cooling solutions. What’s interesting is that the giveaway ends on July 11. Which could be a hint at when we could expect to see the new Devil RX 480 graphics card come out.
So... we can guess that custom AIB partner models will be available like July 11+

Can get a 390 now for only £209.

and? sale prices of old cards are meaningless. AMD are only willing to sell those at that price because it's the last few left and they have new cards coming in.

Same way 980ti £400 price makes a £620 price for a 1080 look truly epically awful.... but AMD users aren't bringing it up as a reason to hit people over the head with because that is what happens.

Last years model of a mountain bike, a tv, clothes, thousands of other products have since I can remember had massive sales to shift stock. Get over it.

This card will be both cheaper still and faster, likely significantly faster. Come back to this thread in a week and find that out then come back in 6 months and see the gap become even bigger.

The card is very likely to be faster than a 390x which was mostly £350 or so price range for most of it's time on sale, this brings more than that performance(again most likely) for £200 price point.

What exactly is a 2016 performance for 2016 price

The things you read in this thread :D

A good improvement over previous generations in that bracket............

if the 480 performs similar to a 390 then it's a flop, given that the 390 performs like a 290. It's not unreasonable for consumers to expect an increase in performance.

I heard rumours that it wont support 120hz on a DVI-DL. Is this true as I can't foresee me upgrading my Benq XL2411T just for a new GPU.

Is there a way to get it to run correctly on this monitor?

Increase compared to what? 480 is in the same price bracket as 380 and is what 50+% faster? Do you even know what the launch price of 290 and 390 was?

Will you be saying GP106 (1060) is 2013 performance for 2013 price too since it won't be any faster than 480? :D

I doesn't have a DVI port, but it has the pins for one. There will more than likely be non-reference cards with DL-DVI, but almost defiantly not on day 1.

Got a source for that?

This is one of those repeated-until-fact AMD fan rumours just like "AMD will benefit on PC from consoles having their hardware". Haven't seen it yet.

just speculation considering it is a feature of AMD GPU's now. Along with monitors coming out with HDMI freesync soon.

A look at the overclock tool, acoustic limits on the fan? Seems a weird thing to name it.

Actually I find that quite smart as people aren't bothered as much with rpm levels as they are with db(A) levels (providing the given levels are correct, and people understand how decibels work...).

Anyways I think this card will be really good for it's price, I think AIB cards will oc to fury X ish levels, the disinfo around this card is amazing ! there is no way it will be at 390 levels (stock and stock) and I will eat my underpants in front of the world if that is the case.

But i really don't understand why they are holding on to the 29th nda date, they have enough units to sell today, at this rate they will be in shops before we can buy them on the net !!

unrelated but...

Britain has been officially removed from Euro Truck Simulator

After the results of yesterday's referendum Britain has officially asked to be removed from Euro Truck Simulator. Since the announcements SCS Software, the developers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 quickly issued a patch a day 1 patch, denying virtual European truckers access to the country.

In a statement from the SCS Software the game's lead designer, James Oak, said that the company believed that it would be "dishonest to the game's subject matter" to keeping Britain, a country that is now leaving the EU, inside the European cargo haulage simulator.

James Oak later stated that the company did plan to include Britain in a new iteration of the game that is currently under the working title "British" Truck Simulator, with plans to bring VR support to the series as well as improved "rain physics" and enhanced "Left hand Drive" mechanics.
