Ok been meaning to update my age old laptop for what, nearly a year now. Best bit, had the funds to do this since last year. Guess what. funds are still there. I have £1250 for the system as the rest of the money I have needs to go on a newer monitor as my ASUS monitor is also showing its age.

1080p 60fps gaming is a must, I play anything. FPS, racing, console ports, whatever I fancy.

This is what I've come up with. and its hit well below my £1250 budget. Thoughts on this spec?

Also how do I format this BBCode as the img tags all seem a bit messed up?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,173.56
(includes shipping: £14.70)

Personally (as it is what I did) drop the ssd & spend the saving + more money on a 512GB samsung NVMe M.2

Much faster speeds, better 4k iops, no wires to deal with & route :D

M2 drives better then SSD then I take it

So 3000mhz memory and cheaper cooler, add 1070 and add 512 M2 and then this would be a super system I take it?

No issues with compatibility I take it?

Well its all ordered. I just hope I can build it, as its been around 2009 since I last put a gaming rig together. Been using gaming laptops since around 2011, now going back to a gaming desktop

Guess it can't be that hard to assemble provided I read instructions??

I also had to add a keyboard to the list as like I say, been using a laptop for years for my PC gaming. Won't be sorry to see the laptop go truth told.

Its all been delivered, case is bloody hard to hide the cables as they have put like a cm of sound proofing behind the back panel, meaning I lost some space to stash cables but made it work.

Overall components seem pretty good, but I am extremely impressed with how OCUK handle their shipping. I used DPD and not only do you get a text, you can then decided to redirect to a pick up location if you are not going to be in.

This was a huge help to me, and can only say how pleased I was with that as it helped me out massively.

Cheers OCUK - made the delivery process painless.

Its been two weeks since I got the parts to build the rig you helped me spec.

And this is her -

Case does a good job of hiding cables, granted its not an uber gamer machine as it was only £1100 in total, the super high spec machines are much higher in price but for me its a superb upgrade from my Alienware laptop. I'm happy with it.

And there she is, all on, ready for gaming the day she was built. I am fairly proud of this, certainly my best PC build ever. The i5 6600K manages really well at 4.3ghz and pretty much every game thrown at it runs at 1080p 60fps.

Next year I'll look at monitor etc upgrades but for now, this will do me. Look at my old Alienware sat there, no longer needed other then being used as a plex server..

Cheers for the help guys.

Very nice indeed. I'm looking at getting that case in red and black when I upgrade. Can I ask, what was the cable management like? Is there decent space in the bottom to hide away excess cabling?

The case is great. But it's got soundproofing material down the side panels, so it makes cable management down and around the back a little tight... the bottom where the power supply sits however is very good to hide cables...

Overall a great and well made case...
