That marketing vid is a bit weird.

A 390X is "good enough" for 1080p, but it's not going to set the world alight. The best thing you can do with a 390X is make it cheap, because you're never going to make it max 2016 games, even at 1080p.

390X performance is soon to be three gens old.

Like someone else said, there's a massive disconnect between that marketing video and the reality of launching a 390X level card.

Also that monitor at 144mhz, u need a card that can push 144fps which i dont think the 480 will manage at max settings or high settings at 1080p.

You don't need 144fps to enjoy a 144hz monitor. It's a upgrade no matter the fps over 60hz. 60fps @144hz is night and day over 60fps @60hz

They don't know what they taking about :) I own three monitors 60hz, 120hz and 144hz, they all show massive difference in smoothness and input, Response time is reduced massively also.

The only benefit you get from running the max 144hz is motion blur reduction and obviously frame rate latency.

I suppose that could be the case, but anyone who is supposed to have this card (which these guys are) should have had the launch/review drivers by Thursday. I'm guessing they do have the correct drivers and are in fact unable to hit 1400mhz which seems to be the trend from the most recent leaks.

Not to say that Fury level performance - which is where it should be at 1400mhz - is bad for £220-250.
 
It will get nowhere near Fury-X at 1400Mhz if its a 390 at 1266Mhz ^^^^

I think its a good idea to keep expectations low.

I have no doubt it will have some exelent new features and to a very high standard, Delta Compresion, Tesselation Culling, Call Batching and so on, that will show in some games, tipically where AMD usualy don't do well at all these cards will turn that on its head.

But overall expect it to be a 390/X replacment, nothing more than that.

I would imagine the AMD overclocking software won't let you push volts to far. Maybe more will be possible using programs like afterburner. What will make or break these cards is there stock performance and price. Overclocking while a good thing to have is secondary.

Might be just me but when i was watching a comparison vid of the 480 vs 970 in gta 5 benchmark, true it had a few hickups but overall i thought the fps even while lower, were smoother. Did you find that if u have seen that one yet? What i wondered tho cos of that is could it be all them new things kicking in to make it smoother even tho lower fps.

Then again could be because of however they rendered the video to make it help smooth it out somewhat.

There are limits to overclocking if the board power isn't upto the job, the VRM's will shutdown if too much current is flowing through them.

Remember the refrence cards are designed to be power effisient.
 
I would think its more than 32 ROPS. Would be kinda of a fail if it was 32 when AMD themselves had said, this new card is priced at £200 but is the equivalent of a $500 card from a previous gen. Which correct me if i am wrong but i dont think a $500 card from the last gen would be 32 ROPS. I think its just gpuz probably incorrectly listing it correctly or even if they are legit screenshots of it. Wait till 29th to see. Maybe gpuz needs another update or two.

Definitely not Fury-X, but quite possible it will get near Fury Pro with a 10-15% overclock if it performs like 390x at 1266mhz.

They didnt need to crunch any numbers, they just looked at the 970 and said make us one of them in red ta. :)
