Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

red plastered over green ? :D

:D  :D

Surely AMD aren't going to give it all this hype for it to just be a rebranded 390x...

Surely?! SOMEONE?! CONSOLE ME!

It's half the size, consumes less than half the power and launches at half the price 390X launched at. To put it in perspective, it's the same size as GTX960 and beats it by like 70%, probably much more in some games.

Consoled? :D:p

you do realize that you are talking about a card that sold for 500$ few months back ? replaced by a card that is 300$ cheaper ?
you do realize that even EOL 390x/980 deals, which many consider good deals, are still 150$ more than RX 480 ?
but in your mind 390/970 is the same as 390X/980, even though the difference in performance and price is quite significant, the full chip is about 200$ more expensive than the cutdown, and about 20% faster, the same performance difference between 1070 and 1080, but your brain wouldn't consider the 1070 to be the same as 1080, yet he does it for lower tier.
the problem my friend is not AMD, the problem is how your brain process information.
so yup seems like the RX480 is a rebrand of the 390X with half TDP, 60% cheaper, and with new features, but thats not enough for you.
if you need more performance, the RX 480 is not for you, you have the 1080 or the 1070 to pick from, even though they are practicaly the same thing...

From Tom's Hardware:

So reference card will not OC impressively due to 6pin connector, but partner cards with extra power connector will be able to do better...

Every time i make this statement such as a maximum of 75 watts from PCI-E can be drawn ( A x16 graphics card is limited to 75 W. The 75 W maximum can be drawn via the combination of +12V and +3.3V rails, and the sum of the draw on the two rails cannot exceed 75 W.)

and its the same for a 6pin power connector 75 watts for a total of 150 watts some one allways comes in and tells me it can draw more than that even though its supposed to be the max amount of power/wattage that can be drawn.

Id imagine if this is true it will be more down to the thermal limitations of the reference cooler and power delivery capabilities.

But it would be true one would imagine AIB partner cards should help with overclocking potential. But depends on the die its self as everyone expected the 1080 to hit 2.5Ghz quite easily with AIB cards but look how that turned out lol.

AMD fans hyped this up too much, it's just a plain old 80 card... not even an X.

It's clear that AMD have crunched the numbers and decided this is the card that would reclaim them the most amount of market share while still being vaguely performance-oriented thus generating the most amount of buzz & free publicity while costing them the least to make etc etc...

and lots of people did that with the 1080 too. Fact is its what fans do, they get excited and hear some news which paints the cards in a great light and they want to beleive it so they do. Not necisary fan(boy)s but fans of pc hardware. So whats your point?

itinkerstuff, it might be best posting that list in the general hardware section.

Also your not really suppose to link to other sites even list search engines. Ocuk are funny about that since its their forums and they have a shop.

Also that monitor at 144mhz, u need a card that can push 144fps which i dont think the 480 will manage at max settings or high settings at 1080p.

Thanks, I deleted it and posted it in the right forum. So you really think the 480 won't be able to push 144 fps for games like, say, Insurgency/CS:GO?

Them games, yes i would imagine will be fine. I was more on about more demanding games like gta 5 or something of that caliber.

Can i ask why you need 144fps? For reference I get 60+ FPS with my GTX960 2GB in those games, Insurgency regulary gets to 100+ fps with pretty much max settings.

The 480 is rumoured to be +70% quicker, should bhe a breeze for the 480, could probably do well at 1440p too.

As always just wait for the benchmarks to confirm.

We have air conditioning , both in the lab and in the open-plan office . The looks on summer days to keep 24 ° C , the air is for Graphics Cards So ( ver ) equal to ( bar) . And find the volume measurements , as already mentioned by Duvar , in a semi-anechoic chamber instead , the sound booth . Here also videos are set to music . Factors that can not make the graphics performance comparable are thus largely eliminated .

1400 MHz has not reached our card anyway. The first Kühlermod but already on the bring-up - phase addition .

Raff

Sounds to me like the stock cooler isn't up to the task. Doesn't mention if he's using any extra voltage, or the new official AMD OC Tool?

Wouldn't write it off just yet. Still waiting for my 1500MHz custom cooled version ;) :D
