The next Labour leader thread

I said he has to take some of the flak and I expect a leader to well, actually lead!

But no one in PLP want him or support him. Forever and a day they will always say he is an ineffective leader. Its hard to lead people who refuse to be led by you. Admittedly this is the dilemma Labour have, and you're right that he is ineffectual because of this! But it just highlights that the Party is absolutely at odds and out of touch with huge amounts of people it represents.

I'm not even a Labour voter, the fact Labour are in complete disarray and not representing huge parts of the Country they should be representing is a disaster for this Country, and the people who traditionally look to the Labour Party for hope.

Gloria De Piero is gone.

One of my favourite politicians ;)

The media had in it for Corbyn from day 1 so when people think he didn't campaign for Remain it's not actually his fault but it was the media who failed to show him campaigning.

JC or any other leader could not possibly convince the people who have seen a huge influx of EU migrants over the past 10 years. When it came to the Referendum it didn't matter if you were a Labour or Tory voter. Most did not take their party leader's recommendation to remain as can be seen by the majority of England who voted to Leave.

I follow politics but cripes their are only a few on that list I've know and only a few more I've heard of. What a bunch of nobodies Corbyn has chosen.

It really is. I am frankly stunned that Labour has been reduced to this. Hard to believe it's the same party that enjoyed landslide victories and unprecedented popularity when rebranded as New Labour.

He chose people who would conform with his ways.

Personally, I never understood how or why Hilary Benn and Heidi Alexander were selected since they had different views to Corbyn on quite a large number of issues. If anything, those two were the ones adding credibility to Labour and now they are gone.

Corbyn is finished at this point IMHO. I think it's time for a leader who actually appeals to the middle class, i.e. where the votes come from. They need a young, right-leaning leader if they are to be elected in 2020.

Right-leaning?

You want both of the major parties to be an imitation of themselves basically?

Holy crap if that's what politics in this country has been reduced to, RIP.

The only quote that stands out from Corbyn on the campaign was that he was "7/10 on the EU".

Somehow when he campaigns on things he believes in we all hear it loud and clear but I guess its just the media that prevented us hearing his passion for the EU right?

I would ask the question, as over 200(compared to 10 remain) voted stay, who will the next Labour Party be?

Corbyn should never have got in, and is really showing a nasty streak by rashly sacking one of his MPs. Is that what Hitler did?

If anything, I think the "7/10" approach is actually pretty representative of what the average Brit thinks at the minute. Corbyn's campaign was that the EU needed reform, but was ultimately a good thing for the economy, the environment, for jobs and for workers' rights. Now that we're leaving, I think he's the right person to take the Labour party forwards on a left wing ticket of a future outside the EU, rather than someone even more in favour of the EU who would just be seen as an attempt to subvert the democratic will of the British people.

Ben got what he deserved, JG will purge all the red Tories holding labour back.

^^ This.

Labour needs a leader who's in touch with the party's roots. If anything they need to swing to the left, not the right.

They swung to the left after Blair and look what happened, they lost. So your solution is to swing further to the left. How does that make any sense?

The key to an election win is the middle class and Labour don't speak to that class at all when they lean to the right.

It's literally the days of Michael Foot all over again.

It's incredibly stupid to have a leadership coup over this. All they're doing is embedding the narrative that Brexit is Labour's fault. We should be hammering the Tories over this right now, and the first thing out of every Labour MPs mouth should be "Where's George?". It's incredible that our chancellor still hasn't made any statement regarding Brexit.

But, no, instead we can have a stupid, bitter leadership contest which will massively alienate our newly expanded membership. What a terrific idea.

I agree that Corbyn should not step down but he needs to learn from this, he is not an idealistic MP anymore so when the party chooses a path he needs to spearhead the campaign with same energy he showed when he won Labour's leadership.

As for the Tories, I think it's clear they're responsible for this mess. They took a gamble with Britain's future to retain the majority and they lost.
