Would I be bottlenecking a GTX 1080 with my current rig ?

Rig is in my sig below.

Many thanks !

Currently yes, however I'm purchasing either a 1440p or 4K monitor depending on the GPU choice I make, which in turn depends on what else I do or dont need to change about my current setup.

Cheers

Simon.

my bro went from ur CPU overclocked to a skylake i5 only with a gtx 980 and he gained a fair amount of fps in all games @1080

CPU upgrade will definitely net you some gains, in conjunction with a 1440p 21:9... you'll be at another level then! I wouldn't bother with 4K, even a 1080 will struggle. 21:9 offers better immersion and FAR easier to drive maxed out.

Thanks for the input. 21:9 is a definite possibility...

Either way looks like an upgrade is on the cards.

It absolutely IS a waste. To spend £600 on a GPU that can max out 1440p 21:9 is the definition of "waste of money".
From looking at reviews a single GTX 1080 just about copes at 1440p 21:9 (3440x1440)

But then again everyone different
Some people are happy with 30fps where the next person wants 100+ fps
also the same applies with graphic settings some people are happy with lower settings where the next person wants max settings..

No ones happy with 30 frames :p that's enough to bring my tea back up

3440x1440 100hz, then a single 1080 is more than capable with a few tweaked settings for the extremely demanding games (witch 3 etc)

Single 1080 for 1080p isn't a waste per say. It would run games at that res and refresh for the next 5 years.

But it's not the best choice, 3440x1440 or 1440p (100-144hz) is perfect in my opinion.

have a 1080 for 3440x1440 and its perfect

have my skylake cpu overclocked to the limit

don't like having the best GPU then not getting every ounce of performance out if it

Looking at something like this to upgrade my current build as per my Sig:

Thoughts ?
