Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Because AMD have said this is going to be a disruptive card that shakes up the whole market.

So if it's basically a 390/X replacement at a similar price or slightly lower, and then nV release a card that equals it... well, wouldn't that make AMD's proclamation a bit silly? It wouldn't?

Is a disruptive technology something that performs as expected, and something your rivals can easily match with their own products? If so then I don't understand what's so good about a disruptive technology :)

It's not just some people in this thread who have been building hype. AMD themselves have built this card up to be something special... something out of the ordinary. "The biggest jump in performance for decades" they said.

Is this AMD's own problem for over-hyping this card?

Hope its DVI to DP rather than to HDMI, which is what i got with my 7950.. else that adapter will be pointless with the 480 only having 1 HDMI port LoL

It is DP to DVI, it says on the box shot.

The card from the box shots also appears to be factory overclocked to 1328mhz.

AMD said:
The Radeon™ RX Series is a disruptive technology that adds rocket fuel to the VR inflection point, turning it into a technology with transformational relevance to consumers.”

AMD's own hype about Polaris and the RX series.

"Disruptive"
"rocket fuel"
"transformative"

Will the 480 live up to this hype of AMD's own making?

I'm getting seller's remorse for getting caught up in the hype and selling my 290x a week ago now :D

Ah well, I was pretty board of it. I'll just be glad to have something to tinker with. As long as its not worse max OC vs max OC, then I don't really care too much.

If the 1060 will be released for 200 dollar It will mean the disruptive part worked

If the 1060 is more expensive it worked

It's a win win for AMD

I can upgrade to a new technology Card that performs for only 200 dollar

The whole point comparing the 480 to older cards is mute

The whole pricing of cards did come down considerably Because of this release

expectations real?

It's a budget GPU aimed at midrange, what expectations do people have?

0.0

Anyways looking forward to seeing what these can do, not long now. Reading some of the butt hurt comments is worth a laugh too.

You didn't see the posts with a couple doing theorectical performance graphs and oc expectations and saying it might well pass a Titan X when custom AIB cards came out then? :o

That's not to say it won't but the realist in me is expecting 390/X performance and anything more is a bonus and anything less is ermmm yer, less :D

Faceman, put that pic in spoilers please. I am on my phone and a nightmare to read this thread with that :(

So... er... every card AMD have released have been disruptive then?

Because if nV react to it's disruptive; if they don't react to it it's disruptive...

Clearly I have no idea what disruptive means. My bad!
