Brexit thread - what happens next

You are overlooking all of the amenities needed for a city to survive. the people are talking about london becoming its own independent state/country from the uk, isolated within another country.

What i am saying is that what remains of England could send london back to the stone age simply by stopping all amenities going to it as a huge F you.

I think you'll find most of our amenities such as water, electricity etc are owned by the French and other overseas owners. I doubt London will have trouble buying what it needs from the EU.

I guess Little Engerwales could sieze control and re-nationalise the utilities, but I doubt that fits in with far right political doctrine.

To be fair you do get countries in the middle surrounded by others. We will just tax them on all imports ;)

Right. So you mean they don't really rely on the rest of the UK because this isn't the Middle Ages and the rest of the UK isn't going to lay siege to London, even if it "broke away", which is of course stupid.

Of course London relies on the rest of the uk, the last power station that was in London was battersea and that closed years ago. The rest of the UK could just put up their two fingers, cut off the electricity, cut off the water, cut off any food getting to London and see how long London lasts.

They would be a state isolated within another country, a complete lose, lose situation. So it would be easy for the rest of the UK to Destroy london within a day if it decided to break away.

No doubt you mean emigrate, but isn't telling people to "shut up or get out" somewhat undemocratic? I guess democracy and free speech isn't important now you think your side has "won" (there's no winners here).

Will you be helping people you don't agree with to leave? I guess that's the next phase in all this isn't it?

Yes thank you.

I'm all for freedom of speech. But read the theme to all this thread. On one hand we have constructive strong minded people who are remainers, conceding it's not the outcome they wanted however they are accepting facts and getting behind the idea. The solidity of the UK and it's demand to thrive again and an Indipendant Country.
However we have remainers who got out voted fairly. Now there going to very low unbritish lengths. All the legal jargon about it's not legally binding or a second referendum.
Why should they continue to be disillusioned and think they will get there way. Just find it very pathetic quite annoying tbh.

McstylisT - your signature says it all

if you didn't have the actual numbers and looked at your graph - you'd say split vote - time to come up with a compromise

Lol. London as an independent country is a silly idea. But not quite so silly as the notion that the UK (actually, not the UK as Scotland and NI would have done a runner by then) could prevent it from importing food, water and fuel.

Even assuming they could lay siege to the city, you can't starve millions of people to death in the West, during the 21st century. It's slightly frowned upon...

Im really dumbfounded that you consider this a possibility.

London is not going to become an independent country.

I think the problem is that they already act like they are, this is why the rest of the country has an issue. Our problem is that the people we elect all dwell within London.

Maybe Londoners votes should have more say as they obviously know best ;)

Wait, so you are suggesting war against a city state who's people democratically voted to be independent (hypothetically)?

What happened to democracy in this scenario?
