Hi guys,

Just having a play around with overclocking my CPU.

Currently have it stable at 4.4ghz. Reading around this is a pretty common overclock. What have you guys managed to get? I am wanting a daily OC so nothing too drastic. Ideally would like 4.6ghz with low volts.

All i have done is change the multiplier to 45.

Cheers.

My 6600k did 4.6ghz on 1.4v so it wasn't a great chip but I've had a couple of 6500 that did 4.7 and 4.75ghz on 1.4v. Every chip is different. Yours might be able to do 4.6ghz on 1.3v you just have to try it and see if it crashes or not. If it does it might need 1.325v or 1.35v to be stable.

Thanks man, will try this. I don't really want to go over 1.35v for my everyday build. Too scared :D

Just another question, its better to go on manual volts rather than auto yeah?

Mine needs 1.35v for 4.6ghz, didn't want to push any more volts through it so left it like that to begin with.

I then tested what I needed for 4.5ghz and its stable at 1.275v which is a pretty significant drop in volts and also heat and noise. Stay virtually silent now so I'm sticking to this :) Seems like the sweet point for my chip. I would have liked 4.7-4.8 area but didn't manage to get lucky on the silicon lottery, plus 4.5 is plenty in reality!

I believe I'm sitting at and 4.9GHz on my i6600k with a MSI Z170A M7 default game boost set at 11. No idea on the voltage it's probably horrific.

My case is an old HAF X with a Corsair Hydro H90. Temperatures are never an issue for me at all.

So, i have it at 4.6GHz with auto Volts @ 1.344 according to fan expert.

Temps are at around 50c. This looking good?

I am thinking of going manual with the volts and dropping it down to around ~1.3v. Do you think i have 4.7ghz in this chip?

You should always use manual voltage as it means you have most efficient speed, heat and power usage.

Thats good to know!

Will set this running Prime at 1.3v and see how low i can get.

Looks good so far.

My 6700k is 4.7ghz @ 1.385v, I use realbench and cinebench to check reliability, oh and general computer usage and gaming. I had to keep uncore at 4.5ghz though as it made my system unstable at 4.7ghz

At 4.7ghz @ 1.375v running around 54-56c.

A hour in prime. Going to keep testing. Very happy if it holds out though.

I am looking to moderately oc my 6600k as well.

Im confused about what im supposed to do with voltage settings. I have read that changing the multiplier alone might work just fine as the OP has done. But with voltage left on auto doesnt that present a risk of excessive voltages?

And by manually setting the volts dont i lose the automatic savings when not on load?

I'm on air, temps are very good but I just can't get it stable at 4.6Ghz after more testing which is disapointing. It runs for a fair amount of time but eventually bombs out under load.

I have it at 4.5Ghz @ 1.375 and its ticking over nicely at the moment. Looks like it's the best I'll be able to get!

How did you get on in the end @JoeF1? I'm having to up my core to 1.4v to get 4.6Ghz but i'm still not convinced it's stable?

Currently have mine at 4.7Ghz @ 1.375v. Max temps were around 59-60c. This is with a custom loop though (project in sig). I had prime running for about 10 hours and everything looked good. I don't think i am going to try any more, but i may try and bring the volts down.

I must have a decent chip mine is running at 4.7ghz 1.25v max temp in the mid40's under load with a w-cooling loop no idea what my max oc is mind, just set it there and forgot about it

Going to do more tweaking, although i'm not on water, it's only when under serious load at 4.6-4.7 things become unstable.

Have you both disabled any power throttling, I've got everything bar multiplier, vcore and memory settings at defaults?
