Cars insurance run out end of next month so had a look at a few comparison websites and the lowest amount I could get was £700, last year I paid £220.

How the **** has it tripped when I've gone another year without claiming?

Just because I'm bored I've just put in a quote for my own car that I've owned for 4 years.

Think for this year I paid £370.

First quote with my Dad as a named driver with mods and protected NCBs - £750.
Then just me, no mods and no protected NCBs - £380.

Currently with Adrian Flux who allow mods and next year I will protect my NCBs. Don't mind paying under £400 so I'll stick with them if they quote me under :)

Do adrian flux do normal cars?

When you got it for £220 last year, were any others close to that?

It could just be that your current company realised they were giving you the insurance far too cheaply.

I've been looking at my own which might be taking a £150 jump this year too - I find it thoroughly annoying as its a near 40% increase 'just cos'. Insurance premium tax is highly unlikely to have impacted by such a high % in relative terms.

Will see what the renewal looks like - ultimately there isn't much you can do other than go with the cheapest quote

Mine tried to put mine up to 450 from 360 this year. But I managed to get them back down to 375. I think the government upped the tax on car insurance this year, so many are using it as an excuse to try and hike prices far more than they need to :/

I got a renewal quote for £880 for 2 cars, last year was £540 (although at a different postcode). Rang them up and they reduced it to £656 - I want to remain loyal but if they keep trying to screw me at every renewal I'll leave out of principle!

This happened to me with Tesco two years ago. The quote £350 was nearly half the next cheapest one. When renewal came it went up to £400 which was still cheaper than all the other companies anyway.

Yes. Theyre just a broker.

They are, but it depends very much on the underwriter they put you with, I sold my charged R32 last year due to taking a leased Octavia Rs, Flux used Equity Red Star as the underwriter on my policy, who wouldn't cover the Octavia.

In the end it was easier to cancel the policy and take out a new one with someone else (still cost me a load in cancellation changes though)

They were all very similar to this last year.

Literally the car is a 2010 Mazda 6 2.2d not exactly a sports car, I have the policy as domestic and social no commuting as I have a company van.
Last year I did all of 2850 miles in it so am putting mileage at 5000 just in case we go on holiday.
I have 10 years driving experience and 8 years no claims, I have advanced driving qualifications through work.

But the cheapest I can get is £500, that's with my farther on the insurance, is it just uncertainty because of brexit or am I being screwed?

On the subject of stated mileage.

How can they tell what mileage you're doing or have done?

I don't see a difference in cost if I state 10K as opposed to 5K too.

Both me and the wife were with Esure who were the cheapest at the time. But after 3-4 years their prices had doubled, got a quote from someone else at half their price but Esure wouldn't match it so off we went.Seems nowadays loyalty means nothing and you have to chop and change every few years.

mot's? guess a few hundred off is not issue but a few k might be a bit of a problem ;) end of day the more you drive the higher the risk of crashing?

mine increases by £40ish if I add extra 5k miles.

If you dont see a cost difference then keep it accurate

If you work a full time job 50 miles from home but have your annual mileage declared at 5k per annum, if you have a crash on that commute it wouldnt he hard to work out that you do actually do more.
