Ok so finally after many years of being a pauper I am finally getting back a nice performance gaming rig! Long may it reign!

However I am caught as what to spend next months "toy allowance" on. As I've been away for Aaaaages from this kinda thing I have no real clue on monitor selection now and how my rig will make use of such hardware. With so much conflicting information kicking about I thought Id ask the question:

"with the spec I am going for on my build thread. What monitor should I get, or should I get a 2nd 980ti for SLI them come back and look at a specific monitor?"

Why another 980ti you say? Well cos I have one in there already and expect to be able to pick up another on fleabay with everyone scurrying to sell theirs for a 1080, this having more cash for a monitor :P

Thanks in advance folks!

Absolutely. It's easier to drive an ultrawide resolution (5m pixels vs 8m) and you get the extra immersion of the 21:9 ratio :)

How do you find that Vs FPS games. I had a wee shot with a 32" wide telly (not the best test i know) and found it a bit of a pain as my eyes had to roam around the screen a little that bugged me a bit.

or is that just not the case with proper kit?

I really wish I had somewhere in Aberdeen I could go LOOK at the kit and get a feel :/

Unfortunately I haven't jumped on the ultrawide bandwagon yet. Hoping to soon though.
I've been considering the Acer X34A but with the amount of problems they seem to exhibit I think I'll hold off and wait for the new lineup to come out.

I wish there was somewhere in London to take one for a test drive :)

So do I, really difficult to decide what to do without viewing it in the flesh. I'm trying to debate between ultrawide and 4k...

There is no debate. 21:9 wins on every count apart from pixels, but even that comes at the cost of fluidity and smoothness.

I have had my X34 since November, you forget just how good it is until you play on anything else, feels dirty not playing in 21:9 and Gsync :D

hummm 1K on a monitor...... offfft.... eeeerm.... I wants it.... but can i get it without getting skinned by the mrs

So with a little wrangling and promises to do some things I have permission to get the X34a :D

Part of me wanted to wait till q4 for the native 100hz version but I want new toys and I wants them nowz!!!!

The next question will be 2nd 980ti or whole hog and get a 1080
