Brexit thread - what happens next

Unbelievable that this will all be to not be in the EU but in the EEA instead.

Absolutely appalled.

I'm not sure what anyone else expected.

Now Boris has his new job, the disaffected can be cast aside and put back in their box.

No one on the leave campaign gives two **** about the people who voted leave, but they will pay the price when it goes wrong.

he's not said that, read the whole article - in particular you seem to have not read or ignored this:

The points based system will be for those outside the EU. If we want access to the open market, freedom of movement will remain. The EU will not budge on that.

no he's not said that, that would involve allowing freedom of movement which we will be pushing for concessions on - it is going to be a hybrid agreement (which I predicted months ago in Burnsey's thread)

This is certainly what it is being interpreted as. He is going for a Norway style arrangement. I've always been in favour of this. There are a lot of perks whilst keeping the EU at arms length.

So if Boris was after the top job why were other mp's / business leaders etc etc willing to support Leave?

I believe that bosses of Dyson and JCB came out as support the leave campaign but the have their own agendas as with everyone I guess.

The EU was passed a regulation to limit the power output of hoovers which Dyson didn't like. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28878432

JCB sells construction equipment from what I've heard their main sales will be to developing/emerging markets a.k.a China and India (and not really EU countries).

Like I said, cry me a river, you'll get no sympathy from me for having to endure such a hardship. Passive victimisation my arse, grow a pair ffs

Sorry to disappoint, I've kept my 'pair' when I voted leave.. I didn't get paralysed with fear because the pound might drop...

The referendum is not a legally binding position that has to be adopted, it is actually only an advisory. Our democracy is that we vote in a government that votes on laws / policy. So technically they can boot this out in parliament and it is still democratic. if we then don't like it I am sure that the same excellent turnout will come for the next general election and vote a new government in right, because that is our democracy.

Yes, but try and put that genie back in the bottle. Try and explain that to your average Leave voter.

This thing is a complete mess. DC shot his mouth off with the 'must evoke article 50 immediately upon a Leave vote' rhetoric. He made it crystal clear.

I understand the technicalities. I think the actualities are more complicated.

yes because iceland that big power house of Europe will save the UK economy by buying everything we have right ?

I would say Iceland, Switzerland, Norway and the UK would have some serious Financial Clout, probably more than enough together to squeeze the EU for some very good deals, better deals that the EU would concede to each of those Countries alone. But what do I know, I just tell people to go to Rhyl whenever they ask 'Spec me a holiday'.

Fully expecting the pound to get hammered again tomorrow. I think we will see sub-$1.30, if not tomorrow before the end of the week.

It carries weight when the far-right feel vindicated and empowered enough to fling racism casually and without fear.

A reversal wont put that back in the box... the box is well and truly shattered.

Ok well that wasn't he question I was answering, but yeah I think there are few other social problems that have reared their head with this outcome.

That's a UK problem. But it isn't unique, I've heard stories where English people here have been asked pointedly when are they going home...

Oddly the Scots here are not subjected to the same abuse.
