Had this keyboard for a long while now, it stopped for one firmware version, but since the latest it's been misbehaving.

Whenever I turn the machine off, it does rainbow patterns, or a white and red theme, and won't switch off. It also won't work when I switch it back on, and I have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to register keystrokes.

It's doing my head in on what would otherwise be an awesome bit of kit.

Solutions I've tried:
  • Different USB Ports
  • Both connectors in USB2, one connector in USB3
  • Disable EuP2003 (or whatever)
  • Disable various 'power on states'
  • Update firmware
  • Delete all profiles, save only one to memory

Anywhere had similar experiences, or have a fix?

I've had the same thing happen occasionally on the same keyboard. I'll be watching this thread to see if there is a definitive solution.

I've actually had some phone conversations with Corsair in America and not had any particularly helpful response. The 'rainbow pattern' and then mostly red with a few keys white is a demo mode and can only be exited by taping the space bar a few times. Have you tried that? I thought I had tapped every key when it seemed to be stuck but it only responds to the space bar.

Are you using Windows or Linux?

The main way I have got round it is to boot my PC up immediately after turning the plug on, if I leave it sat with the PC turned off, it seems to hit the demo mode. I've kind of got used to it now so will be interested to see if anyone has any proper fix for it!

What model number do you have? RGP0004 here.

My K95 was doing this, but has stopped now. Only did it twice but i disconnected it. Rebooted, Shutdown, and Plugged back in. Hasn't done it since. Have you contacted Corsair?

Mine used to respond like this, but refuses to work at all now until unplugged. It was good for a while but the new software borked it.

It's ridiculous that such an expensive piece of equipment from a well known brand should require this though, makes my blood boil!

Same as me.

Corsair likes to make out it's the motherboard manufacturers fault, but it's bull. Everyone else can implement this correctly. It was the same joke with Corsair Link for an AGE. They've finally sorted it and it's decent now, but it's ridiculous that I had to wait 2 years!

I'm so fed up with it I'm looking at Ducky. I'd love a Ducky One TKL White LED.

I really hope they find a fix so we can enjoy what is otherwise an excellent bit of kit.

I've been putting up with this for a while as well. It is down to the fact that most mobo makers deem it a good idea to keep powering the the usb's when you power down the pc so you can charge your phone or whatever devices, although it's not really a good excuse from corsair because when i first got mine it used to switch off with the pc so it must be a firmware bug. The only thing i have found to do, other than switch off at he wall, is to use the brightness key on the k/b to turn the lights off once powered down.

I also have a similar prob with my Ducky Secret mouse randomly turning its RGB lights back on sometime after i have powered down.

Please let us know if the latest firmware fixes it though. I've been afraid to upgrade for a while incase the Corsair noobs break something else.

I don't have the RGB K70, but occasionally when I turn the tower off, the key backlighting remains on, and you have to manually cycle through the keyboard modes to get it to turn the backlight off (it still powers the mode keys though, so it's not actually off). Same thing for the mouse sometimes.

Complain and RMA, The K65 does not do this i keep the pc plugged in and when it is shut down it goes off. The only odd thing it does is glow red with the wsad and arrows in white until CUE is loaded and them im back to whatever i selected.

Mine doesn't allow this :(

What happens when you press the backlight brightness button (the one next to the WinKey lock button, to make sure we're talking about the same mode switcher) when the thing is cycling?

I had to RMA my K70 (non RGB) recently due to a firmware issue and also my Corsair mouse due to the middle mouse button failing. Both were replaced, but I won't be buying another Corsair product again after this. They shouldn't go wrong in the first place for the price you're paying.

Nothing happens I'm afraid.

I've also tried to assign a 'lights off' mode and scroll through to this before I restart the machine.

No joy.

Just a thought...In your bios enable ErP. Your USB ports have a charging feature that will supply power and turn on the keyboard while the computer is off.
