Brexit thread - what happens next

TLDR, went to stevenage on sunday to do shopping and had 3 individual cases of people telling me to **** off home. having lived through the early 80's in the same town I used to get racially abused pretty regularly. It hasn't happened for over 25 years, yet it has now started again and people are trying to say it is just casual racism that always existed and has nothing to do with the exit vote.

If that is the case the surely I should have been getting some of this "casual racism" up until now. This is not just me reporting such incidents, there are far more cases around the country and we are basically being told to deal with it and that it's not correlated in anyway.

What did the police say when you called them?

Look on the bright side of things.
You never got your head chopped off in the middle of a street. Now that's racism

Old and disabled people get picked one by people. But do you here them moaning? NO. Sticks and stones.

Im pretty sure that LH would no longer want you as part of his team

Yeah and none of them have reported it to the Police. They're using it on an Internet forum to score a few points against the Leave campaign and Democracy

Good to know you've been tracking them all to confirm that no one contacted any authority.

More willful ignorance and excuse making on display. I know it's unpalatable but trying desperately to pretend it's not a problem helps no one.

Have the racists ever stopped to think that maybe some people of skin colour other than white may have voted leave too?

That would be embarrassing for them to discover.

So true.

excellent, more validation of racism in the UK.

What did I type that was racist? I typed the truth. It was all over the news.
But you've just lost the plot.

I'm more surprised that other Brits aren't stepping in when these racists attack.

If I saw anything like that happen near me, I'd be right there backing the victim. Being an ex-pat Saffa, I have zero time for racist idiots, which is also why I get annoyed by all Leavers being tarred as such.

That's not the case though - no one is accusing everyone who voted leave of racism. It's that people simply aren't accepting that there is an increase in public acts of racism that have coincided with and are being directly attributed to the platform the leave campaign brought. It doesn't happen, it happened anyway, it's just social media etc.

The attitude towards it is quite frankly disgusting.

Are you sure this is happening to you? Are you sure you haven't just heard about this on social media but give it more credibility by claiming first hand?

Some drunk chaps with a banner were not the ones shouting at me in Stevenage town centre to **** off home. Unless you have been at the sharp end of racial hatred you have no frigging idea what it is like No personal attacks - Gilly.

My wife received her first bout of racist abuse today after being born in this country 32 years ago as she was speaking Italian to a friend, assume this is just a coincidence?

Come back when your own loved ones start getting racially abused. My partner has lived here for well over 10 years and not until Friday has she ever felt unwelcome, suffered being called vermin and witnessed such widespread encouragement that she should '**** off home'.

To pretend this is a handful of isolated incidents is willful ignorance of a big problem and the only disgusting behaviour is from that of the abusive parties and the apparent apologism starting to surround it.

I'm talking about before all these reports even, hell, even before the actual vote it was happening.

I know in the short term, this may cause an impact, but in the long term those that claim to know are lying. We have not left the EU yet either and will not do so until at least 2 years time. I was also disappointed in Cameron who threw his toys out the pram and decided to quit as the campaign did not go his way. I had respect for him beforehand, not anymore.

If he was really throwing his toys out of the pram he would have resigned with immediate effect

He effectively lost his authority over Brexit Conservative MPs, and was not a supporter of the way the country wanted to move...seems pretty logical to me, how could he possibly continue to lead the country

Frankly what's annoying me most out of all of this is the remain camps childishness.
Look if things are bad, fine it was a mistake, only time will tell. However what is not going to help is keyboard warrioring sand in the vaj.

Plus it is very pathetic to add a racist stamp to the feeling of desperation when things have become overcrowded. I for one want immigration to stop. Tar me as a racist, but I'm not say I want all the blacks to stop coming or the polish, just people. I want people to stop coming here and allow us to get the poor off their asses and into those jobs, create more infrastuctures, and more homes. Have a happy UK again and then open the doors.
If that takes a kick up the butt of the people in this country, then maybe desperation from leaving the EU is what we needed. Maybe if we struggle we might roll up our sleeves and get on with life, cause frankly if we don't and the generation of "everyone wins a medal" decides to give up then we are screwed beyond belief.

However at least this time it's down to us, how it happens and why.

(Follow this post with, oooohhh booo hooo this is why idiots voted leave blahh blah blah)

To a certain extent the 2008 crash saw three, iirc, dips in the FTSE as it headed lower. This does not meant to say it will not happen. The Governor is of course trying to calm the markets.

One of the differences here is that some countries seem to be almost gleefully trying to take advantage of the situation against us :S and we really are in unknown territory.

Mr Steel worker was wondering that anyway, since we as a country were unable to do anything to support them due to EU rules

We could and the British Government chose not to. Since Tata steel shutting down the British government announced changes to protect Britsih STeel which meant that not only there was a buyer for Tata steel, even Tata steel were having second thoughts about selling. No with Brexit thats all off again.

Now if the government had made these changes 5 years ago then Tata never would have closed it down in the first place.

However, the EU gets the blame when in fact Mr Steel Worker should be blaming the Tories for doing nothing.

Point is government didnt car for them, EU did and sent 600m a year to help but thats gone now too.

You think the government is suddenly in the upcoming recession going to care about the North East and steel workers again?

So two options:

Renege on the decision and have half the electorate peed off at the politicians and have racists going nuts at the government. But the economy becomes more stable and back to almost where we were. Look like complete morons by the world by doing it in the first place but a big sigh of relief.

Go with the vote, have half the electorate going mad at the politicians, the racists continue to go after non-white british people, ruin the economy and unstabilise the global economy and look like bigger morons to the rest of the world.

More to it than that but that's the basics...

What an absolute pile of BS.

I hope the next leader of the country remembers to sell that line to the people as their benefits get cut, they struggle to feed their families and to keep the lights and heatingon in their homes. The economic fallout will not impact the so called "political elite" that people thought they were kicking out at. Mr Moat will still have his moat and ducks, while Mr Steel worker will be wondering where his next pay check will be coming from..................

Germany rules out informal Brexit talks before article 50 is triggered, well there goes that idea.

Source

So let me get this right. We have two choices:

  • Ignore the will of the British people as it was last Thursday and revisit our EU membership with whatever government we have left
  • Uphold the will of the British people as it was last Thursday and invoke article 50 with no strategy and no frame of reference for any trade deals or even understanding of what is to be offered

Well **** me.

It is a problem and it needs reporting to the Police, it's hard to take Twitter seriously I'm sorry to say
