Hi guys,

So as you can probably guess, I am trying to decide between going with the ultra-wide X34, or the standard 16:9 4k XB321HK.

Can somebody that has had an experience with both 4k and ultrawide tell me how these compare? Which is better/more immersive for gaming? How noticeable is the increase in quality (resolution) when going from ultrawide to 4k?

I'm going to be using a GTX 1080 coupled with an i7 6850k, both overclocked as high as possible. I'm not fussed about > 60Hz, so arguments about being able to game at 100Hz aren't really relevant for me.

Would appreciate any input on experiences with these two monitors, as I am having a really hard time deciding... :|

Thanks!

I've had both the X34 and the XB321HK. Both great great monitors in their own right tbh, with their own strengths and weaknesses.

I literally had to toss a coin to decide which one to keep!! It just came down to just how ultimately punishing 4k still is, and 3440x1440 is just easier for a 1080 to run...

I must say though that Gsync really *really* helps with 4k gaming, running it off and on is like night and day! Smooths out frames nicely :)

What kind of frames were you getting with the FE in 4k? Do you think ultrawide 1440p is a better experience at the moment? I'm hoping to overclock with the hybrid to around 2GhZ, and don't mind turning of AA, so hoping I can hit between 50-60 FPS in most games. Does this sound reasonable to you?

This is so tough :(

X34 all day long, your 1080 will run it with ease, you have 100hz to play with which really is night and day against the 60hz 4k. 4k looked nice but the extra hz was way more important imo and ultra-wide 1440p is a far better experience than 4k 16:9. I won't ever be moving away from ultra-wide now next change will be UW4k when we can power it.

The 1080 will kill UW res no problem, but 4k is a different league altogether imo. BUT the fidelity of 4k is really really nice to have, and I didn't mind running a few things at Medium in order to keep the frames up.

Personally I'd say that 4k is still within the realm of SLi, but that might change once the new Ti is released

I got both as well and they are both really nice monitors. i would say you would prefer the acer x34 due to it been superwide. a single 1080 can destroy witcher 3, siege, doom and all the latest games at this resolution. if your really set on going 4k and don't mind big monitors then get a 40 incher. you cant really appreciate 4k in anything below that size

Thinking of selling my 3 x dell gsync monitors to get the Acer 4K as this was my first choice before i bought the dells as it was just a pre order in January and no sign of it online with release date or anything so took plunge and got the dells . even though i like the dells very much in surround its that some games just dont look right . i have to keep using widescreen fixer to play games like doom and Call of duty . its great for drving games but i will now sell them and get the new version X34A and the 4K Gsync and put the 32in ontop of the X34 via a bracket . its a lot of money yep but dont plan on upgrading again as i just cant enjoy 3 x screens and the drivers are just terrible for it and stops me from using Fastboot to use the F12 to get into safemode on W10 . I will use the X34 for gaming as had one before and loved it but sent 2 back with problems now im hoping they fixed the problems and ive seen the 32in 4K screen in person and its just an amazing screen for photo and video editing . and will be good for none ultrawide games like FM2016-17 , COD, MGS , and Football games .
