Brexit thread - what happens next

My personal opinion is that this should not have been put to the public. This is more a question for experts in economics and politics to work out what would be the best for the UK.

Most of the experts knew it was not good economically to leave.

The vast majority of the public based their vote on immigration.

Hardly a good enough reason to plunge the country in to a recession.

That's only because they don't understand. Actually wait until the next Austerity hits their benefits, and the lack of jobs really starts to bite. Plus inflation, increased costs of, everything.

Project fear, we all know that we'll be dancing with unicorns under glowing rainbows while buying our bread with our newly minted sovereignty currency right...............

We'll just end up accepting free movement of people for access to the single market.

Recession avoided and we get our sovereignty back in other areas of law and politics.

Best of a bad situation.

They do, they just don't know it yet.

Austerity will see a reduction in benefits.
Alcohol, tobacco and fuel duty well rise.
Cost of food will rise.
Even if we do reduce the number of immigrants, which isn't even likely, the number of jobs available won't go up, because when the immigrants leave, so does the money they were spending.

The UK is also now entering a recession thanks to the leave voters, so unemployment rates will rise.

Taxes are going to have to rise to cover the shortfall.

This seems most likely at this point I think.

Short of a GE or parliament deciding not to go ahead with A50.

Lots of people gonna be chuffed with free movement and still having to pay with no say :p

vast majority of the public gets confused with prices in 99p shop let alone make a complex economic and political decision whether to stay or remain in the EU.

Holding a referendum was trully idiotic decision. Whose idea was it again?

Where are all the lovely folks who quite happily decalared the pound was in great shape, as it managed to only drop a few % on Friday?
What are their thoughts now?
Should I go back and find quotes for people to explain themselves?

Yes exactly. I forgot about that. The fact we are not in the EU means we have no say over the policies. We just have to do as told. So even less power than previously. (In this one particular area)

The delays in leaving are not going to help. Before the result Cameron said he was going to stay and see things out no matter what the result. Then he looses, gets a sulk on and quits which has left things in limbo until his replacement is found. That's why the pound is taking a hammering. Once someone decides whats happening it will go back to normal.

SNP isn't helping matters either. That woman banging on about another vote for Scotland, even though Scotland's in voters didn't even total a million.

What would happen if A50 isn't enacted and parliament decides it's too risky/bad idea?

I think we'd continue being an EU member just without Cameron's special deal, along a hell of a lot of bad feelings and a whole heap of economic fallout to clean up.

Oh and some people might be a bit miffed that their vote was ignored. :p

One random female Iceland fan agrees: "I wanted Iceland to win, but now they did, I regret it"
