I have been looking at holidays to the Maldives and places like this and the cost added up to like £5,000 which is just a silly amount. I just wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere decent I love the Villas you see with the infinity pool etc.

I got 18 days off work in October so looking for somewhere to go I like the idea of the Carribean or Bali any ideas?

£5k for how many people? I've never been interested in the Maldives but that sounds a lot.

Why not go closer to home. Italy, south of France etc. You can probably get very cheap flights and then splurge on an Air BnB?

Thailand? Advantages of luxury for not Maldives prices, plus if you choose cheaper places for cheap prices.

This.

Koh Phi Phi would be a nice choice.

the Holiday Inn there is very nice, simply walk outside the room and your on the beach with calm clear water...

£5kpp sounds about right for the Maldives for 2weeks+ - and that's for some of the "cheap" places. France, Italy, etc whilst are nice places they really do not compare to the Maldives.

You'll have to pay it if you want to keep up with the Joneses

Honestly think these days a lot of people choose the location just to slap it all over facebook and tell everyone, everyday at work leading up to it.

+1 for Thailand.

Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia. Anywhere around that area you'll get Maldives luxury/scenery for a third of the price.

If you want closer to home, we went to a wedding in Kenya in November, the beach hotel was the best I have been to. The beach at Diani wasn't much different to what you see from the Maldives.

I seen many pictures of Thailand it does look great and heard many good stories of the place.

I would say my budget was more near £2,000 but although it looks amazing I cant stretch for £5,000

How many people and for how long. What are your dates?

What sort of holiday do you want? Chilled out or party every night? Something in between?

I've been to Thailand twice, once in my early 20's and again this year (I'm 34). Different experiences really.

Go to Bangkok, stay at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel (5 star - book direct) and have 3 nights there at least though.

Ye will be just myself

Langkawi - Malaysia
Railey Beach - Thailand

I managed 23 days with my gf earlier on in the year - Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Dubai all for under £5k.

Superb experience, great scenery....just look up Railey Beach and then tell me The Maldives is better....

The OP asked for luxury holiday idea's.

The only 'luxury' holidays you can have for his £2000 budget are really Asia or the Caribbean.

Railey beach is really lovely, you can stay in very nice accommodation for about £90 per night or alternatively there is an exclusive resort which is more like £300 per night.

That's not really in his budget is it?
