Luxury holiday without the pricetag

If you want a similar experience for a lot less money you have to compromise on things.

I wouldn't even put Thailand and Maldives in the same experience category either.

One I consider an ultra luxury beach/resort holiday (although I guess it can be done on some what of a budget too). The other I would say is whatever you want it to be.

I've been all over Thailand and stayed in some of the best hotels. It's an awesome place and a lot of fun. However one thing that always hits me is just how overrated the beaches are. The vast majority of the nicer ones are ruined by tourists (Maya Bay is a perfect example of that). The water is usually pretty rough too. I just wouldn't compare it with the Maldives. They're totally different

If all you're going to do is sit your ass on a beach and relax by yourself, I wouldn't necessarily go for a luxury resort. There are plenty of more modestly priced places which don't tout themselves as "luxury" but will still give you exactly what you need in terms of comfort.

Luxury is for when you're with a woman, not on your own.

I am warming to this Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam and probably doing Ho Chi Minh for a few days so will probably do a 12 day trip altogether.

Now to work out a good place to stay in Ho Chi Minh

Edit: What it like getting a Visa for Vietnam can you apply online or do you have to go to the embassy?

We had an approval letter before we travelled (all done online) and then got the visa on arrival, took about an hour. However there have been changes since and rules seem a little more relaxed.

Would the Aegean be an option? There's a decent one on Santorini, called something like Canvasshotels or something that is pretty decent. Can't remember the prices off the top of my head though, but I don't think they were anywhere near the £5k mark.

Punta Cana Dominican Republic could be good option, all inclusive for 2k for about 2 weeks at 4/5 star depending on time of year. Beautiful women there too

I like the idea of Santorini more of a romance holiday though but would the weather be not that good in October?

Just looking around I found this

In the far south, the beaches of Phu Quoc enjoy a monsoon climate with two seasons; wet (late-July to late October) and dry (November to July). Visits to Phu Quoc can be made year-round although the best time is during the dry season (outside of October the chances of sunny days remain high).

It seems maybe Phu Quoc and Vietnam might not be the best time to go in October

Oh ****ing great, the forum bug is back that won't allow you to edit your post or quote someone else.

Anyway, it wasn't Cnvass it was http://canaves.com/canaves-oia-suites/accommodations/infinity-pool-suite/ I was close. :p

7 nights 4,000 euros or 10 for 6,000 :o

Following a model on snapchat posting videos and this place does look insanely beautiful

That Railay beach looks beautiful in Krabi what is the best way to get there and also a decent place to stay?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone keep them coming Vietnam does sound good I have heard good things.

My wife and I recently (Feb) did 3 weeks in Thailand - we went all over. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Lanta, Ao Nang.

The beaches in the Ao-Nang area (including Railay beach here, which I loved because I got to climb there) are not as good as further south, Koh Lanta. There isn't a great deal to do at Railay, and you can't really enjoy the beaches as much as well because of all the boats / tides.

In Ao-nang, we stayed at http://www.bansainairesort.com/grand_lake_view.html which was lovely.

It was really really nice, but it's not near the beach - and the beaches in that region are tidal and the peace and quiet is ruined by the water taxis. Why they don't have silencers I'll never know.

We did the whole trip on around £3.5k and certainly weren't slumming it at any point!

I've just had quick look on Virgin holidays and there are some deals for the Maldives between 2-2500 pp in Oct for 14 days.

(That is literally the first site I came across on google, I'm sure there's probably some more competitive prices with further research)

Although I would have a think before committing to Maldives on your own. Spending two weeks on a tiny islands surrounded by honeymooners / couples would probably get a bit tedious as beautiful as Maldives is.

Looks like some lovely places on there only problem is when you go to book it automatically adds second person so shoots price up above £3k I dont know if you can change does not seem so.

Shame that Anantara Si Kao Resort Krabi, Thailand looks amazing

Thailand for sure. Regarding beaches. The main ones people go to are not the best ones. There are amazing quiet lesser known beaches, or private beaches which cost around 20 quid max for the day.

I am set on Vietnam now can anyone recommend a good hotel in Ho Chi Minh city?

Will stay there for 4 or 5 days before I go to Phu Quoc Island I cant wait looks amazing :)
