Impact of Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Death on Brixit

It was probably more significant that Hitler was allowed to remilitarise Germany after WW1. If the terms of the Treaty of Versailles had been properly enforced he wouldn't have had a military capable of going to war on such a grand scale and there would have been no need for a united Europe post-WW2.

If the Tories hadn't ousted Thatcher and we'd then not signed up to Maastricht then we'd likely still be just a member of a trade association, with more sensible rules on freedom of movement in that you simply need a job offer from within another members state first.

If we'd listened to Maggie then we'd not need to have this mess int he first place. She was usually right about Europe, adamant we shouldn't give up GBP as per below and adamant later that she's enver have signed up to Maastricht.

Do you think if Gavrilo Princip had not been enjoying a nice Nescafe in a cafe and Franz Ferdinands driver had not taken a wrong turn, that WW1 would not have started, the Germans wouldn't have had their bums handed to them and got all grouchy allowing some Adolf bloke to get leary, that Brexit would not have happened?

WWI was coming anyway, Princip just lit fuse.

I know this is meant as a joke thread, but to give a serious answer it's more likely WW1 would have started at some point anyway due to the spiderweb of alliances and tensions in Europe at the time. What is more likely a cause of WW2 than WW1 itself was the punitive peace treaty Germany was forced to enter into by the Allied powers.

Perhaps an interesting historic example of not abusing positions of power.

Its good that we all know that the duke was reviled by all and the masses celebrated his death :)

Jury is still out on the exact causes of world war 1 but that death was a small catalyst pushed by the aristocracy of the time

I blame Denmark for Brexit.

If King Harold hadn't been pre-occupied with the Vikings at the battle of Stamford Bridge (no, not that one), he could have driven William The Conqueror and the pesky EU back in to the sea.
