Brexit thread - what happens next

You think Teresa May would be a good PM?

Who can say for sure, but she has rich experience in Westminster, has strong views on security, and realises the police are now run by politically correct left wingers with braid, for their own aggrandisement, with scant regard to seeing their staff do their duty to serve and protect at a grass roots level. I have absolutely zero issues with her forcing through Draconian measures to monitor e-mails, stop and search, inter or do whatever else she sees fit to keep out national security in as good an order as it can be, with so many radicals now amongst us.

EDIT: I hadn't seen this before, which I find extremely disappointing, I was hoping to have a government that got us away from this meddling:

"Mrs May also said that, as prime minister she would drop her call for Britain to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights, saying she did not expect there to be a parliamentary majority for it."

Leadsom was very impressive during the referendum discussions, but I feel she is a rank outside chance. I am not at all keen on Crabb and his choice for partner Sajiv Javid, but doubt they will progress far in the leadership battle. I like Gove's intelligence and respect him for taking on those troublesome teachers so stoically. He too would be a reasoned choice, IMO.

This is only part of the cluster**** of a legacy the leave voters have left for us.

A chance for Teresa May - one of the most authoritarian and anti civil liberty politicians around - to become PM.

yep, this country is going to be subject to one of the most extreme right wing governments it has ever seen. The people most likely to suffer will be the ones currently doing cowboy kicks in the street yelling yeehah we smashed the EU. Then the pain and suffering will come, the reduction in benefits and the general lowering of living standards. The rich well off toffs can take the hit, but the average low paid brexiter will get smashed and then history will repeat itself.

Better to hit the harsh reality of what was coming slowly anyway, much quicker.

That way the people realise it and shoot it dead come GE.

The real legacy of Brexit is a realisation for the idiot on the street that he/she has power, and it can rightly so make Parliament a mess.

I'm a bit conflicted on the next Tory leader.

I lean towards May, as she offers the most expertise with regards managing the Brexit (giving us the least-bad exit), if we commit to that route. But she is horribly authoritarian and the furthest from my own political leaning.

I suppose we can get rid of her at the next GE.

Ah. You're one of the "I've got nothing to hide" brigade. In which case May is your wet dream of a PM.

Wonderful for you, not wonderful for anyone who is interested in privacy and civil liberty. I guess that explains why you'd vote out of the EU though if you hate the idea of the government not being able to spy on absolutely everything.

As a segue tack, I'm guessing you don't develop software? Do you think it a good idea that the government should be able to force companies to backdoor their software, or face fines and jail without trial?

I thought this quite was telling from Gove:

“I have come reluctantly to the conclusion that Boris [Johnson] cannot provide the leadership or build the team for the task ahead.”

http://www.ft.com/fastft/2016/06/30/michael-gove-running-for-tory-leadership/

And there we have it, leading leave campaigners were playing a game of thrones, acting in their own self interest.

So what happens next? As usual, the pawns pay the price.

So you vote out of the EU due to their "perceived inherently dictatorial stance on just about everything" to just implement exactly the same thing at a national level.

Sounds like the act of madman...................

"If Head Office try and come here and interfere, they've got me to contend with, okay? You can go and fiddle with Neil's people, but I'm the head of this family. You're not going to fiddle with my children. I am, if anyone does."
