EU TV - UK figure of 8 plug replacement?

Wondering if I could ask you for some help.

I have recently moved from Portugal to the UK, and have a few appliances, such as a TV and PS4 that have a 2 pin plug on them.

Obviously I can use a converter plug to plug the 2 pin and make it a British 3 pin, but could I not simply change the figure of 8 plug to another with the U.K. 3 pin at the end?

I hope this makes sense, your help is appreciated!

Yes. You need an IEC C7 power cable.

If you mean chop the 2 pin off and wire a UK 3 pin, yes. Providing that the appliance is fine with 240volt @ 50 hz

No not chopping the wire and replacing the head.

I mean replacing the EU figure of 8 with a UK figure of 8.

I know it would fit - just don't want to cause a fire or blow the unit!

EU and UK mains voltage and frequency is harmonised, there will be no issue.

I'm in the Royal Navy and was based in Portugal working for NATO.

UK hasn't been 240v for quite a few years now I thought? It's 230v like most other places in Europe.

It's not. Europe is 220v, the UK is 240v. But officially the voltage across the continent is 230v, but the high and low limits are set so that 220v and 240v are both still acceptable values of 230v.

I believe voltage can vary by 10% or it use to at least, so almost everything now is made with quite a bit of tolerance to vary. Anything made for European mains will work fine in the UK. Most manufacturers make exactly the same product for both UK and EU with just a different shape pin plug.

Nominally it should be but generally it's still 240 in practice. Limits around the nominal 230 are so large though that anything rated for 230 will likely work with anything from 210 to 250 in reality.
