But if you compare it in terms of size, pieces etc. to things like the Helicarrier, then it's on-par.
The fact that a large Technic set hasn't been this expensive thus far is more to do with Lego's current pricing policy. The big sets all now seem to be around the £250 mark.
Technic has never been comparable to 'normal' sets in terms of Price per Piece.
You need to compare like for like. So taking the top 5 largest Technic sets ever:
42055: Bucket Wheel Excavator - 3927 pieces (+PF), £179.99 = 4.58ppp
42043: Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 -2793 pieces (+PF), £169.99 = 6.08ppp
42056: Porsche 911 GT3 RS - 2704 pieces, £249.99 = 9.24ppp
42009: Mobile Crane MK II - 2606 pieces (+PF), £149.99 = 5.75ppp
8110: Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 400 - 2048 pieces (+PF), £154.99 = 7.05ppp
The Porsche is way more expensive, over double in some cases, and is the only one not to include Power Functions. The Wheel Excavator is a 2016 set too and is one of the cheapest flagship sets ever.
