Hey

I am just a casual gamer but some of the games I've played in a past year made me realise that it would probably be a good idea to get something stronger.

I use 1080p system (don't plan on changing that any time soon). At first I was thinking about getting 980ti but looking at the price difference between that and 1070, I'm not sure. I prefer using one card so I would like something that's gonna last a bit and I don't mind spending extra cash.

I've noticed in another thread a talk about upcoming 1060. I am not knowledgeable on the subject so I can't really tell the difference. I'm not in a rush so I don't mind waiting for a bit either.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

1070 is double the performance of the 780 and is more future proof than the 980ti, 1070 is the perfect upgrade.

1060 won't be much of an upgrade.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Will any 1070 do or is there a specific one I should be looking at?

If you're playing the long term game then I'd say to look at warranty.

Not trying to push you towards any particular card or anything, but the Zotac Amp Extreme is in stock right now, with 5 years warranty :)

Yep this ^ 5years is great if your going long term

The Palit/Gainward ones are quieter, cooler and overall the best but I don't think the difference between them is worth losing 3 years of warranty. So I'd echo the Zotac sentiment as well!

Sounds good to me. What if I wasn't going for the long term?

then buy whatever cheapest 1070 you can find and enjoy it to your heart's content ...

I'm just asking because I had mine for something over 2 years so I don't know if I won't be looking for a new one after another two years thus I don't mind buying something better with shorter warranty. Also, as I've said, I'm just a casual gamer so if there isn't that much of a difference in performance between them I don't mind going for the one with longer warranty.

EDIT: I might as well go with that zotac. Thank you and everyone else for the suggestions.

I've had several Zotacs over the years including a Zotac 1080 now and you can find a review discussion about it on these forums. There's no question they make quality stuff and couple that with long warranty you should get your money's worth easily, out of them. Just keep in mind that these cards are huge. I haven't seen a 1070 but the 1080 is massive, makes my former MSI 970 look like an unfed tiny baby.

Thing is if you want to upgrade in 2-3 years then the zotac one will have extra 2 years warranty left which would be valuable in trying to sell it on as you will get more than ones which are out of warranty. Just a thought. Providing the warranty is transferable.

The dimensions were another concern of mine too. According to the manufacturer 780 and 1070 are identical but looking at the pictures doesn't feel like it. I use Bitfenix Ronin so I'm not sure if I would be able to fit it in there. EDIT: Nevermind, found out the true dimensions. Width/height shouldn't be a problem but length might. One of the Gaiwnards I checked should fit but I've also noticed some MSI Gaming X.

Good point.
