Hotel Reception Worker Mistakes UAE Tourist For ISIS Terrorist

I'm saying it's OK for people to ring the police when they see something they think is suspicious. On Friday 20 people in Dhaka were hacked to death because they couldn't recite the Quran, at least no-one died in this incident.

What? It's a collosal waste of police time especially if there was a legitimate issue elsewhere.

If you let people call the police because they're a bit afraid then police forces would be constantly stretched. The clerk should be reprimanded.

So something suspicious is anybody talking a different language and wearing funny clothes then?

Best put Heathrow on red alert then as I am sure there are lots of people like that coming through passport control as we speak!!!!!!!!!!!

Different people find different behaviours as suspicious - that's fine, we're all different after all.

One thing that came out of the Orlando mass shooting is that the perpetrator had displayed radical jihadi behaviour in the past - at school, at work - but people didn't want to report it because they were scared of being labelled racist. That has to stop. OK in this case the woman who reported this guy as suspicious was wrong, but I think we should be praising her for her vigilance and willingness to take action rather than giving her grief.

Two totally different things. The Orlando mass shooting, clearly with all the things he was saying over weeks, somebody should report that. Reporting somebody cause they are an Arab is just nuts.

Yes but the point is that the prevailing culture in the USA made people reluctant to report the Orlando shooter. I think we need to change that aspect of that culture. How do we do that? By not pillorying people for having unfounded suspicions would be a start I would suggest.

So its okay for anybody to ring the police when they see an Arab walk into a hotel on the phone then?

Depends on what he is saying!

If I overhear him saying s "As-salāmu ʿalaykum" that is one thing, if I overhear him saying "Allahu Akbar" that would be another thing all together!

Well clearly the receptionist was fluent in Arabic as she stated on the phone to the police that he was "swearing allegiance to ISIS"

I thought she never said that but her sister added it in for...well who the hell knows why?

Nope still don't get it. Are you saying people shouldn't report suspicious behaviour in case they are accused of being racist?

Coming from you, not surprised in the slightest lol.

What was so suspicious about him?? The fact that he was wearing a robe?? So some ignorant idiotic American decides that 2+2=5 and calls the police??

Was he running around shouting death to all infidels?? No he wasn't so where is the proof he was acting suspicious??

What the media report isn't always what happened - thought people would have learnt that lesson from Ahmed the "clock" boy. Whatever happened, someone thought he was behaving suspiciously, so did the right thing and called the police who checked it out and found he was OK. What's the problem?

What an absolutely juvenile idea of cause and effect you have.

You're assumption of anyone "checking it out an found he was OK" is absolutely nothing to do with anything. How can you say this Ahmed clock guy is never going to be the next Bin Laden just because he made a clock one day and the FBI checked it and it was OK. :D

If Ahmed the clock guy wanted to blow the school up that day it would have happened before he paraded his clock to half the school ffs.

I guess Muslims need to take that back that phrase.

They should use it in context wherever they can (as would be common in other countries) as often as they can.

Then people might be desensitised from what is actually an innocuous phrase. Maybe people like you will eventually stop flinching when you hear it.
