335i or 650i?

if its the facelift 630i that your looking at, the engine isn't supposed to be as reliable as the prefacelift 630i. something to with injectors .the one I had had to have all 4 replaced and im sure theres a couple of other issues.

ive had a facelift 630i and currently got a facelift 650i and for me the v8 makes the car feel more special plus it sounds better. the 630i wasn't exactly slow either and to be honest id think youd be happy with either. its only when you start reading forums that you start thinking about going for the v8.

the valve seal are a common issue but more garages are starting to fix it now. fixed automotives in Manchester charge a fixed rate of £1300 to replace them which was one of the cheapest I found when looking around to get a general idea of cost incase it went on mine.

if you've got anything particular you want to know feel free to ask

The thing is, when I think about it I would buy the 650i and take the risk. I had a 750i in the past and figured that if the pipe failed I'd worry about it then.
The bodge fix is good enough to patch it up and trade it in when it happens.

The pipe, PCV and valve stem seals are enough to make the trade absolutely hate these cars, so i wouldnt assume the trade will give much for an x50i.

As an example, i watched a UKCGR Select 650i Cabriolet on a '56 and around 75k miles sell for just £4500-£5000 last week (i cant recall the exact number now, it was under 5k).

Problem with it? Yep, it wouldn't idle and was smokey. As you say, huge issue.

I really like these cars but when several of these common issues involve engine strip downs, are they worth bothering with?

At that money, surely it would be worth buying and fixing it? You'd have a guaranteed sorted one for less than what I've seen any 650i cab with sensible miles go for.

You had all 4 injectors replaced on a 6-cylinder engine?

To be honest it did cross my mind, but these cars are not worth massive money anyway and i don't know anyone who would fix these complex issues. I would be having to find a BMW specialist and paying full price and of course the issues could be deeper than first apparent.

Fixed its worth £9500, so yeah there is a ~£4000 margin (after premium and delivery etc) to work with there which will probably work out for someone, but for me i didnt think it was worth the hassle it would have likely been. I wouldn't have even known where to tell them to send it for repair without some research. :)

i didn't personally have them replaced, previous owner did. for some reason the figure of 4 injectors being replaced is stuck in my head but might have been all 6. this was around 2 years ago so cant say for sure
