Hi all,

For noisy events - music, airshows, car events etc. I'm after some decent ear plugs. Never bought any before so have no idea what's good and what isn't. Any suggestions very much welcomed!

Unless you want to shell out £200 for custom moulds, just look for some ER20's. Cheap and offer a good level of cutting without dulling the sound like foam plugs do.

Wax ones are the best I've used, comfortable and basically a custom fit. That's from years of working in nightclubs and music events at points being stood up against the speakers in front of the stages with no issues.

If you're looking for 20 quid jobbies, Apline Music Safe PRO do the trick, basic ear bud type things with 3 different filters for diffferent noise reduction levels.

or you can get custom ones done (which i personally have)

about £140 quid and the moulds can be done at boots opticians normally.

i use the ACS PRO 17's as a DJ (not when actrually mixing but for all other times in a club)

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll go for the alpines - but not sure whether to spend the extra on the pro ones..

I had some custom moulded plugs made about 10 years ago for use at gigs and they're absolutely excellent. They turn down the volume rather than just blocking the sound. They were not cheap but worth every penny.

My ear canals are an awkward shape (so I'm told) so custom moulded was the only real way to get a good fit.

I'd just buy a bag of laser lites and use them. For one-off, infrequent events they are fine.

Not that I'd wear ear plugs at air shows or motorsport events...

Ear Peace - recommended by Metallica

I've been using these with the band for a bit now - best I've used for an 'off the shelf' variety.

Maintain good amount of clarity. 100's of times better then any foam ones. IMO.

I might try them because I have an in ear monitor in my left ear but use one of the Ear Peace's in my right ear but when I'm head banging around the stage they have a tendency to work loose.
