so checking on the most powerful 980ti the 980ti KingPin edition

the 980ti kingpin clearly beats the 1070 however if you overclock the kingpin do you think it will be on par with the 1080 or at least beat it by a small margin?

Looking at the kingpin its needs a huge 8+8+6 power supply,so it can handle extreme overclocks,

most important its gone down from £800 to a mere £500, looking at the 1080 classified it is £750 so if someone wanted to go sli for extreme performance would you think a £1000 on 2 980ti king pins vs £1500 on 2 1080s would be better?

what would you choose, also please consider the cost.

All depends how you use the Kingpin and what ASIC value it is.

On LN2 at the moment the Kingpin wins easy.

On air the 1080s win easy.

For normal use you need a very high ASIC value Kingpin (80%+) to get the best out of it.

Unless you are going to use LN2 look at a 1080. Don't jump on the Classified Edition until you have seen the reviews as it may not overclock any better than the Clowns Edition.

yeah the thing is Ive already bought 2 980ti kingpins for 500 each, thats 1k and i wanted to go sli and dint want to spend more than 1k, 2 1080s is at least 1500 !

I havnt opened any of the boxes yet and they are still sealed so the back of my head is telling me to return and swapp for 2 1080s but i need another 500 quid :(

I say look up some 980ti vs GTX 1080 DX12 benchmarks

If these benchmarks Poneros quote are true then the GTX 1080 is going hammer the 980ti in some DX12 games
https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29742803&postcount=24

thats strange, even the amd 480 is in par with the 980ti in these benchmarks but most other places ive seen the 980ti destroy the 480 by at least 50% but these are all in dx12 so one 480 which is worth 230 pounds is the same as a 980ti in dx12?

it that when the kingpin 1st came out 7 months ago i said i must get that in sli now these 1080s have released i feel like as if ive made a wrong decision, need to investigate

I had a kingpin 980 ti and 1070

both overclocked, they resulted in the same outcome

with the 980ti doing abit better in games which benefited from a bigger memory bus/bandwidth

BF4 for example 980ti did a lot better but in projects cars the 1070 outdone the kingpin by a little

ok basically i bought 2 kingpins 4 days ago for 500 each, just noticed the 1070 strix for 500 each too...!

Now im feeling a bit unwell as i think i made a wrong decision, i havent opened the boxes as they are still sealed, so im thinking to return and do a straight swap to the strix 1070 x 2

kingpin 980ti and 1070 strix both look beautiful

the king pin will without a doubt overclock like a monster and still be hungry for more, 6+6+4 pin power!

the 1070 is more future proof, maybe hold value in the long term? and also APPARENTLY scales better in dx12 much much better, like 40-50% better?

so its a difficult decision, what will it be, 1070 strix or 980ti kingpin!!!

To quote Gibbo when I asked him:

We can still charge £800 as we're still selling them daily.

We sold over 100 in June, we only have around 20 left so increased pricing over £900 and they still sell.

No price drops on Titan, only increases! :)

Why do poeple still but the titan x when 1080 is faster and cheaper?

£1,500 on just graphics cards....:o

I ran some 8gb cards on ROTTR the other day and they ran out of memory and tanked. The Titan Xs don't have that problem and can also be used in mGPU up to 4 way at extreme resolutions.

Having said that the latest Pascal cards are fantastic in 99% of other situations.

I would recommend you send them back and get a single 1070 or 1080 to see you through until 1080Ti or Titan P comes out.

If you feel unwell after spending 1k on two old graphics cards, you may well feel suicidal in 6 months or so time when they are worth less than half that and everyone is talking about and rocking a 1080Ti and your 980Ti's are yesterday's news.

Unless you was planning on LN cooling, why buy Kingpin edition anyway? Waste of money. You could just get a normal 980Ti if you fancy old tech and save yourself £280 in the process.

1080Ti probably won't be that much slower than 980Ti SLI and will work in every game buttery smooth.
