Re Pogba not being worth €120m - that price tag isn't just for his ability it's for his marketability. Right now him and Neymar are probably the most marketable young footballers in the world.

I'm very excited for the new season, great manager in charge and hopefully we will have a top class team ready to go.

I'm expecting a title challenge, not necessarily a title win but a 2nd place at least.

Indeed, and the reality is we can easily afford it.

In a transfer market where deals/offers for Troy Deeney, Ighalo and Benteke come to just under £100m, it's great business. :p

Still think Real Madrid could get him though.

I wont cry if Pogba doesn't happen, I think we need to be getting a couple of great players elsewhere rather than smashing it all on one guy.

It's pretty irrelevant to the reported situation at hand.

Maureen has already said 4 purchases in 4 key positions. CD-CM-AM-FW. 3 highlighted are done. Pogba is the last. United can afford to splash £100 million on one player, as it's apparently been cleared.

So regardless of whether we get Pogba or not. We're not spending the cash on multiple people. It's either him or someone of lesser quality.

It's going to be an interesting remainder of the transfer window for Liverpool. With Benteke, Ibe, Allen, Skrtel set to leave + a few youngsters either having already left or likely to leave, we're going to be bringing in £70m+ this window. Even if we pay the asking fees for this Polish lad and the young LB from Leicester we're after, we'd have spent ~£60m. We've got the money to make at least 2 big signings, the question is whether the right players will be available to us.

edit: on Pogba and talk of he/his agent using Utd. The best thing about having Mourinho as manager is that he doesn't get played by agents. He's close with most of the big agents and you only have to look back to see that. I can't remember a time where Mourinho's been played by an agent - he almost always gets his players quickly and easily. That's not to say Pogba will happen. I suspect what's being reported is fairly accurate for a change - he prefers Real and it's not certain Juve would sell anyway.

Only big player signing id like is a proven midfielder to sit along side Can, I would have said striker but with Origi,Ings,Firminho all able to play up top when Sturridge is injured i think we will be fine.

CM/LB is what we need next imo.

I was going to say, one signing we're chasing but appear to be losing out on is Dahoud who is meant to be the controlling midfielder we need. We're reportedly willing to pay £25m odd on him but Borussia Mönchengladbach are point black refusing to sell.

With Ibe leaving there might be room for another attacking mid/winger, although Markovic might stay. Depending on the outcome of Sakho's hearing, we might be in the market for another CB but other than that there isn't any particular area of the pitch that needs desperately improving. If the right player comes up then great but

I still think we have a couple more to come in personally. I think Allen and Lucas will leave, leaving us very short in midfield. Kevin Stewart isn't good enough to be starting and Can can't do it on his own especially with the high intensity game Klopp likes to play, that and he isn't the most mobile.

In regards to Ibe, was he going to feature next season anyway ? Him leaving doesn't really change anything to be honest. I think our priorities should be left back, cb and midfield and we should be spending big especially midfield.

I don't think it's a given that Lucas will go. For a start he's managed to stay in each of the last 4-5 windows despite in every one it looking certain he'd go. But more seriously, I can see Klopp wanting to keep him as cover at CB and CM.

Without European football it's difficult to justify having a massive squad so unless Sakho gets a big ban, I can't see us signing another CB. Matip, Lovren, Sakho, Gomez and as above, Lucas is more than enough.

CM is a bit more complicated. We undoubtedly want to sign another CM but if we can't get the right one will we just buy anybody? I don't think we'll be as short in midfield as you're suggesting, especially if Lucas does stay. Can, Henderson, Milner, Lucas and assuming he signs, this Polish lad can play in midfield too - it's not too short in a season where we might only play 40-45 games.

As for Ibe. He wouldn't be starting but if we're playin a 4-2-3-1 then we're going to need more than just 4 players that can play in those roles. Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Mane and Markovic are our options as things stand. One more wouldn't hurt, especially when it's still unclear whether Markovic has a future here.

Unbelievable to think that Bournemouth are going to pay £15m for Ibe.....English premium I guess again!

And my thoughts on Pogba FWIW....to Real Madrid, funded by the sales of Morata to Chelsea and Kroos to Manchester City.

It (the price) makes no huge difference to us either way. If he stays 8 years as the best midfielder in the world he'll have been worth it.

If he leaves in 3 years for the same/more money, he'll have been worth it.

Obviously there's the risk of him flopping, but he seems pretty solid.

What's the chance of Pogba signing for utd and flopping...erm for a 2nd time ;)
