Brexit thread - what happens next

exactly, so making statements like 'it will have to be developed from scratch and it is bound to be worse' is rather silly

but not in the realms of impossibility as the attraction to UK was due to it being part of a massive trading bloc. China are not out to do us favours, look at the rancid deal they cut the Swiss. What makes you think we'll do any better. What previous case studies or evidence are there to support that the UK will get a superior deal. If china were out to help us they;d stop dumping their state sponsored steel into the UK at the expense of our own industry.

I was in India when the result was announced. TATA boss as well as bosses form other major companies were live on TV saying that they will stop any investment in UK until UK and EU reach a deal.

Outrageous - we should stop importing chicken tikka masala until they respect our sovereignty.

Importing?

no, financial services don't just disappear if we lose passporting. They'd probably take a bit of a hit sure but to say -20% of the UK economy in a single swipe is rather naive

or possibly just carry on under the existing arrangements

Passporting and market access isn't going. I think Osborne has made that very clear to the finance sector.

With May and Leadsome both making very clear that there will be no freedom of movement, what value is there in these assurances?

They have put passporting and free market access as top priorities, this is very much aligned with what Osborne has made clear to the City. Some people are going to be very disappointed if they expect significant immigration controls.

Thought leavers were saying it was big bad EU that was going to deploy UK troops on Russian border

Oh wait seems like it's big bad NATO that UK should leave next.....

I don't recall anyone saying they were against deploying UK troops on the Russian border. Most Leavers are in favour of NATO, which is a pan-national military alliance and a good example of sovereign nations co-operating and working together.

I remember talking to one about it. He said that EU will declare war on Russia and that's why he's voting to leave. I pointed out to him that as members of NATO it doesn't matter whether UK was in EU or not.

Actually it is a good example of individual nations pooling some of there Sovereignty for the greater good, for example we are treaty bound to go to war if another NATO member is attacked which means we have given up Sovereignty on this issue but don't let that spoil a good story about the EU being evil and Sovereignty being everything!

I've tried to stay out of this thread as the angry remainers made it unbearable with their constant posting of absolute drivel. It's still just as bad...:(
