r9 290 ok for 1440p

You said drastically reducing settings, now we have if it can do it at all.

Think about it next time before you blurt out those words as it tends to bite you back.:)

You don't have to drastically/significantly reduce that much outwith MSAA and have good gaming@1440p especially if you are using a G/F Sync panel.

There are loads of settings that can be tweaked and SweetFX can get rid of jaggies without the performance hit, 1440p is very doabble on a 290 in my experience.

I concur, if anything my gaming experience has improved moving from a 1080p 60hz panel to a 1440p 144hz panel, its night and day.

Who's being the drama queen now?:p

BF4, GTA V FC4 and a load of other titles ran great@1440p on FS BenQ with suitable settings using a 290, they don't need maxed out yet still play fantastic.

This...

Been running 1440p with single 290 for ages now and can be well over 60fps with just couple tweaks to the Settings.

Fair enough not Maxed out settings but if you understand what is what it's very hard with almost all PC settings to tell the difference between ultra and High quality but the frame rate gain is massive.

Ultra settings at the best of times is a complete waste of time and performance.

You're gonna need to turn settings down to more than just High in many cases, though. And the difference between Ultra and High isn't massive in every case in terms of performance.

Seriously, those thinking their 290/970/whatever is going to be fine for 1440p are going to end up disappointed unless they stick with older or less demanding games. There's a whole slew of demanding games coming out in the next 12 months or so. I'd say good luck, but it has nothing to do with it...

Dude are you mental or something? i have already stated i run a 290 @ 1440p, i get on average 85fps on Division with some tweaked settings, there is almost zero visual impact.

All the games i play, D3, WoW, ESO, Grim Dawn etc, all run at max or near max settings with minimal gfx impact but at great FPS...

Im starting to think you have an agenda

Trust Me I should now been running it for just under a year now. Turning MSAA to either off or 2x is most time just enough. I run in all my games mixed between high and Ultra and get over 60fps in everything I play.

Don't tell me otherwise :p

Again Doom / Fallout 4 two recent AAA titles running at almost ultra on my 290 for me ....

These may not be the most demanding games but as SiDeards73 said he is getting 80+ FPS on Division with good IQ settings.

Yes games are getting more demanding and 1440p @ 60 (with high settings) on a 290 is not gunna happen on new games like BF1 ect . but for now its still pretty good.

Also look at the age of the 290, not doing badly at all

People think 1440p is very demanding over 1080p I was shocked when I tested the hit think it was Tomb Raider now I expect some games different but Tomb Raider the hit was only 20fps

I too have the 27" 1440p 144hz BenQ freesync screen, ref 290 which has a mild OC on it (1000 on the core) and a 2500k at 4Ghz. So no powerhouse PC at all but I can maintain the FPS on all modern titles to keep in the freesync range, which in turn gives great results.

As others have mentioned, I just drop a couple of the settings to high instead of ultra, like MSAA / AA or shadow quality and the 290 soldiers along.

I'd personally hold out for the RX490 IAB or a 1070 IAB when they become available.

Matt.

think ill hold out for another year, like many on here say dropping the shadows to medium and reducing aa to 2, keeps frames up in the 60s . i play rainbow 6 siege xcom 2, bf4, fall out 4,

yup- my overclocked 290 (1090/1450) handles 1440p just fine

I only have a 1080p screen but run all my games in 1440p with no AA but downscaled to 1080p

looks fantastic :)
