Yes, check for this also before leaving the garage.
Now the garage owner will be forever suspicious that someone is tracking the cars, well done OP 
Happens all the time in every industry - sometimes they don't have the appropriate tools or equipment for the job, sometimes they sub contract the work to garages they have built up relationships with because they are too busy...
