I'm off to Milan next week and need to sort out where I am going to stay. Any suggestions? I'm thinking lake Como. I have 6 nights. I would like to do some country walks, good food, swimming would be nice.

I don't fancy a city brake

Milan itself isn't the nicest of cities. Como is very nice, as are lots of the other villages surrounding the lake.

I assume you're flying into Bergamo?

We went in May, hired a car and stayed in Riva del Garda on lake garda (2 hour drive from airport), we also drove to Venice which again is about 2 hours driving. You could have a look at Modena - home of Ferrari, or drive down to the coast, cinque terre would be my choice, stunning little place.

Thanks guys. I'm flying to MXP after a set of nights on Thursday morning.

Bellagio seems to be very nice with 3 other towns close by. Aparantley you can stay in a small farm house which sounds like fun.

I wholeheartedly recommend staying in Bellagio. It sounds exactly what you want. It is best accessed by car. Plenty of walks around, and ferries to transfer you between the lakeside towns. Equally the food was superb. If you want a treat, go to Grand Hotel Tremezzo. I think Villa Balbianello is open to the public too, but best you check. (where they filmed scenes from Star Wars and Casino Royale.

I went there 2 years ago for 5 nights for a friend's wedding. https://flic.kr/s/aHsk4SDjcz
