Amazon Prime v Netflix

I currently have Netflix HD + 4k, I quite liked it whilst my VPN worked and I could access all the USA content but with Netflix clamping down I am having constant issues connecting to anything other than UK content.

Add to this constant connection problems through my Panasonic smart app and I have really started to lose faith in Netflix. My wife wanted to watch Vikings and The 100 and neither are now available on Netflix but I noticed they are on Amazon Prime.

So the question - Is there any reason why Netflix is better than Amazon Prime purely when it comes to watching content and the amount of content available?

Going for Amazon Prime is the extra's and it being cheaper but just purely from viewing TV and Movies is Netflix any better?
 
If I had to choose one or the other, Amazon every time. I'd just take a Netflix sub once every few months to catch up on the exclusive shows.

Don't forget NowTV, I watch more on that than Netflix and Amazon combined.

FTR...I have subs for all 3 services running together as it's only about £20/month for all 3 combined.

I would just like to echo this. I have Prime and Now TV currently. I watch more on Now TV than anything else.

Sky have also recently changed Sky Movies to Sky Cinema. Email I received states, "Sky Cinema will continue to give you access to over 1000 movies to watch right now - and starting with the new Mission Impossible yesterday - you'll now get a premiere every single day of the year".

Sounds pretty good to me. I think they only used to add new films, once a week.

That's strange, they have had Mission Impossible and Spectre playing for 4 days now.
 
I gave up with Prime as the shows I wanted to watch were quite often paid-for and no way was I going to pay a pound for SD quality shows, let alone HD.

Still, if I were to choose Netflix or Prime it would be Amazon's offering for sure.

I've had Now TV for almost 2 years and only just found out they have live channels #mindblown

Kinda pointless though tbh, I would assume everything that is live is also on demand so feels a little unnecessary.

I've watched my Entertainment pass live but never movies. Everything is available on demand anyway.

If anyone was tempted to start up with Now TV. Don't accept the prices Sky set :p. Sky would like £9.99 a month for Sky Cinema but you can get a movies pass online for cheaper if you look around.
 
my experience of the 'Basic' netflix package is that the content is pretty poor
some terrible films and not much new content
the bonus is you can pay for a month or two to see what you need then sign off

amazon might be the better option if you can afford the upfront year fee

Yup, I don't think i've paid more than £3.50 for a month of movies, sometimes as little as £2 for the Entertainment pass.
 
If I wasn't using one of the DNS spoofing sites that still works then I'd cancel my subscription. The UK content on its own just isn't worth it.

Amazon Prime is slightly better, but not by much. If it wasn't for all the other benefits of Prime then I'd cancel that too. What annoys me about Prime is that it doesn't play nicely with my Chromecast. I have to use a games console just to watch Prime content, which is very clunky compared to Netflix on my Chromecast.

So frustrated that I can no longer access worldwide NF on my Smart TV :(
 
I think sky are hemorrhaging viewers for sky movies so have introduced this new premiere a day tactic, if they are genuinely movies never shown on sky before, that might be interesting but how long will they keep that up ?

The nowtv movies pass I have had, maybe 2 months worth, after a month you can see all that is worth seeing and then have to wait 9 months before there is enough new material to justify it again ? (nowtv entertainment passes yes these are reasonable value, although have to be careful they do not remove something in the middle of you watching it)

I had seen a web site that compared the number of films from the 2015/16 box office top films available on netflix, prime and nowtv and sky was half as many as the other providers (I cannot find it now ! anyone ?)
I wonder if the movies subsidises the sports channels too.
 
I think it's great that Sky release a new premiere every day. I'm enjoying looking to seeing what's been added each day. They also seem to automatically download the movies to your box so they're ready to watch straight away. Quite fancy The Walk, will probably watch that tonight.

There's a good collection on there too called 80's great 80's comedies. The nostalgia is very very strong with that for a 35 year old like myself.

Out of the two sub services I prefer Amazon, but rarely watch either now. I don't care what anyone says about Sky, it is expensive, but if you can afford it, it's without doubt the greatest of them all for Movie lovers.

It's just marketing BS. Previously, they would release 5-6 new films on a Friday. Now they just spread those movies over the week.
The quality of the films hasn't changed and the number of new films hasn't really changed either. It just so happened they kept MI and Bond for the first week as an incentive, but there are not enough of these films to release one a day forever.
