As per title I need a new cooler for my 2600k which I'll be overclocking. It's going inside a Corsair 540 case so quite a bit of headroom to play with. Happy with an AIO or normal HSF.

how much do you want to spend, i have a GTX h100i which is very good at keeping my 4790k at very good low temps. i find it quite aswell. i would suggest something like that and some good thermal compound

Air coolers are lower priced and lower noise levels for same performance as CLCs.

What RAM and motherboard do you have? I ask because RAM height / fan and PCIe / GPU clearance might be a problem with some air coolers.

If you want a CLC, get a CLC. But don't try rationalizing it with false logic. :p
Sorry, but overall area taken up by an air cooler vs a CLC is very similar.
What space issues? Either they fit in the case or they don't. :D
We need to determine what fits in our cases, on our motherboards, etc. regardless of it being a cheaply built CLC or a well designed and good air cooler.

There are no well designed and good CLCs. :p

When Asetek patented them they called the LCLC for Low Cost Liquid Cooler :D

Problem is they cost more than air coolers .. so much for their 'low cost'.

Forgot about this! I have Samsung Greens on a Maximus V Gene board.

Forget about what? I can't even remember why I walked into kitchen with an empty cup in my hand. :D
You have about 74.5mm center CPU to near side of PCIe socket. Most coolers have centered bases so a 140-144mm wide cooler will fit so there are many good coolers available. 2600K is only 94w tdp, so not a really hot CPU so most any good mid-level cooler will do a good job. For example I'm running TRUE Spirit 140 on 6700K, even have another on i7 [email protected] with no heat or noise issues.

If you want air, how much do you want to spend?

I forget lots of things now I've hit the big 5-0 :) Money not really an issue in deciding what to buy.

Okay, so what kind of look do you want?
Cryorig R1 Ultimate is very good and you can even get different color shrouds for it.
  • Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 rev.A is very good. On my 6700K it idles at 2-4c delta @ 400rpm and stress test is 50-58c @ 850rpm
  • Thermalright Macho is similar cooling, Le Grand Macho RT is a little better.
  • Phanteks PH-TC14PE come in several colors and are very good.
  • Scythe Fuma is smaller but still one of the very best coolers
  • Alpenfohn Olymp is probably the top cooling right now .. other than Silverstone HE01 with it's high performance fan or Sivler Arrow IB-E Extreme
  • Noctua NH-D14 and NH-D15S have about the same performance
And these are just the tip of the iceberg.
