South China Sea

Hahahahaha. Israel, China and probably a few more when it comes to land/sea - they don't give a **** what the UN has to say.

Yeah but thank God that the UN didn't do its usual thing and cave into them.

it makes no difference because it's not like the UN are suddenly going to dispatch a task force to start repelling any illegal Chinese incursions, so they may as well have just said fill your boots to them.

But it is the start of obtaining sanctions and rulings that allow free passage in the area.

That was always going to be the result since China want 'all the monies' and don't want to share at all. They're trying to claim ownership nearly up to the other countries shore line... never going to fly.

I can't even see that happening in an effective way.

Against small minnows yes that might work, but how much of a squeeze with sanctions would they need to get leverage over China ? Would likely end up hurting us more than them TBH.

The US, Philippines and Vietnamese navies are all regularly sailing in what China claims is its territorial waters, and now they have something from the UN backing them up.

Nothing meaningful can be done. Basically they need the UNSC to force someone to comply, but China has a veto there. The US will sail ships and fly planes there, but they've been doing that already, no?

And the Australians and the Philipines (aka USN). But if I was a container ship and the Chinese said to leave or else..... I'd leave.

Yes, but I don't think they'd ever engage, in the same way we don't engage Russian bombers that have dodgy sat navs and end up in UK or close to UK airspace. Unless they go full Turkey and start torpedoing the Chinese.

No one is going to do anything about it. China know this and will continue to take over more and more territory.

My concern is the new powers in the Philippines have a touch of crazy to it and the last thing i want to see is the new president trying to make a show of power by delivering his justice via aggression, since that is the sorta guy he is.

Got any more on that ?

Just my suspicions.

The current prez seems to want to dish out death sentences for everything and anything he doesn't like. Seriously, take a look at the statements he openly expresses, you simply wont believe it!

Take drugs = deserves death
Steal = deserves death
Sketchy reporter who lies = deserves death

He thinks its a great idea to have snipers in cities to carry out extrajudicial killings via a vigilante death squad. Whether he has direct involvement is not clear but he is very vocal on it being acceptable and has encouraged this sort of justice before.

His backstory seems like a comic book villain politician. He was responsible for reducing crime in Davao city when was mayor. He reduced it to incredibly low levels by sketchy means.

I am seeing my family soon and will ask them more on what is going on over there since we had close governmental ties, though dont know what the height of our current power is at the moment.
