As per the title really - I think there is a considerable jump/gain in performance of at least 50%, but I can't decide which to go for. Conflicting reports and reviews on the performance difference. From what I gather the 1070 has a high clock speed, more memory and the 980 ti has more memory bandwidth and considerably more cuda cores. Just how important are they for now and future?

1070 all the way unless you can pickup a cheap 980ti < £280.
1070 is new tech and will pull away from the 980ti going forward. New features, More memory, driver improvements and it will be worth more 2nd hand.....

Imo it all depends on the price. For something like £100 extra for a 1070 I can't say it's worth it. It's also a question of how long you want to keep the card for, the 1070 will likely have better resell value if you decide to upgrade in the next year or two.

1070 may pull ahead slightly in the future but it's similar to maxwell architecturally so in my opinion it's not likely to improve relative to maxwell that much. When overclocked the 980ti is marginally faster and cheaper so I'd say that but you can't really lose either way. When you're playing games you won't notice any difference between the two cards. They're pretty much identical performance wise.

It depends on what you game at and what you plan for the next couple of years.

I currently use a 980Ti(OC'd) @ 1440p which I think is the sweet spot. I have no need for multi monitor gaming or VR thus Pascal doesn't offer me anything new. For that reason I would suggest picking the cheapest upgrade for now and that you start saving for the next gen.

You may even decide to wait for Vega as AMD does appear to be stronger with DX12. It is also worth noting that Pascal still lacks the hardware to support Adaptive Sync and so you incur the additional cost of G-Sync with Nvidia.

thats the one I was going to get but its 380 now not 360.

Must've realised that deal was too good to be true. Still a bargain I feel since a decent 1070 will set you back £450 just now. Like someone said earlier, I doubt you'll see much improvement over time with Pascal compared to Maxwell.

Sorry chaps I should've clarified I'm gaming at 1080p and unlikely to go beyond 1440p in the next few years. The price difference between the 980ti and 1070 seems to be getting much bigger. Which 980ti on OcUK looks like the best buy atm?

I have seen *elsewhere* on the internet a zotac 1070 AMP edition can be had for £399.99. Looking at OcUK the EVGA 980 ti is a good deal at £368.99. When you're looking at a £30 gap is the 980 ti still clear cut better value?

you could ask questions one word per message as well .... :)

Lol this guy gets it.

Anyways, go for any of the EVGA ACX cards. Superclocked is the cheapest, Superclocked+ is identical but has a backplate (meh) for £10 more or the FTW for yet an extra £9 as it boasts the highest default clocks out of the box.

Very appreciative of your input but in the end I jumped and picked up a the aforementioned Zotac 1070 AMP edition. Reason being is something I hadn't thought of - my PSU is 600W and only has a single 12V rail. Knowing that the TPD is significantly lower on the 1070 I went with that instead so as not to risk having to get a new PSU.

i went from 770 4 gig msi gaming to 970 then 980 then 980 ti now waiting for 1080 gtx to arrive any of those options are huge increase of performance , it just all depends on your budget
