Summer Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

Clubs are putting these prices on players because they don't want them to leave.

Do West Ham think Payet is really worth £100m? Of course they don't. If you came in with an offer of £30m and the player wanted to leave they'd take it, offer £60m and Gold will personally drive him to your training ground wrapped in bubble wrap. The £100m price tag is bandied about to attempt to deter interest, no club in the world is going to pay a figure anything like that for Payet.
.

Agree completely with the theory, but £30m is far too low these days, £50m and thats probably about right (for his day to day level in conjunction with the figures being bandied about for other players of his skill / age) - edit unless he only has one season left on his contract, but I doubt thats the case.

Is this the Payet that plays for West Ham the one that has scored 12 goals in 38 games, is 29 and has had one season in a half decent league ?

50 Million about right ?

He's a good player and had a decent season / tournament but turns 30 this season, the idea that a half decent 29/30 year old is valued at 50 mil is just silly.

no human being is worth the moneys being banded about, its just got completely ridiculous.

Players are worth exactly as much as the market deems.

Marketability. Sponsorship draw. Shirt sales.

there's his affect on results. Win the EPL? The Champions League?

That 100m fee, euro or pounds, will be paid back in no time at all if he continues to perform as he has done for his club the past 3 years.

You did leave out the fact that he turned it on in the biggest Football competition outside the World Cup too, though I agree with the basic principle of your post.

That said, if he's on a long contract and his cub don't need to sell that also impacts the price point.

Obviously he is or Leicester would sell. Keeping in the EPL is worth more than £30m, he could keep them there. I think someone would need to go above £40m for them to consider it.

Think you mean West Ham as Payet doesn't play for Leicester...well not yet :p.

Payet was great is almost every game in Euro 2016 and he had an amazing season. He is easily worth 40m plus even considering his age. His game isn't pace based and he would improve any team in the PL (apart from West Ham)

Fulham have just signed Tomas Kalas on a season long loan from Chelsea. Don't know a hell of a lot about him but seeing a lot of positive comments from Boro/Chelsea fans.

Anyone got any insight?

What is this, Fulham are actually signing positively so far this season (Ayite, Aluko and Madl). Apparently Denis Odoi from Lokeren is joining on Friday as well. Also got Faurlin on trial currently as well.

You also have to consider that in all liklihood he would also either be going to a direct competitor in the EPL which would raise the price, or to Barca / Real which would also budge the transfer to well north of £30m

Its not also just about goals (although attackers do generally go for more money) , its assists and his general control / football intelligence as well that makes him a costly purchase a year after he joined WHU

All prices are silly at the moment, Im not denying that at all - but IF he was to be sold he will go for a lot more than £30m

edit - PSG are supposedly after Valencia from Utd ........wait for it.......for £26m hahaaha, where do they get these numbers from , best joke Ive heard all day - I will rent a jet and fly him there myself if PSG were really offering that amount for a 30 year old very average winger / full back (mind you in Ligue 1 he would probably look incredible lol) - even IF £26m is the full deal value incl 2 years of wages ( 200k/week - £20m) + 6m transfer fee would be worth doing just to get him off the wage bill / team sheet, but I just cant see it being remotely true.

Paid back how. Sponsorship draw? Aren't the big shirt deals already done, do they get more money for buying a big player? Shirt sales, I'd be interested to see these stats. Are there any to show the shirt sales of say Manu over the years and see how many extra have come from a player signing?

If Manu got Ronaldo back tomorrow how many extra shirts do you think they would sell over the ones that people were gonna buy anyway year on year? I think the shirt sales thing is greatly over exagerrated. I imagine the only real difference is the players name that goes on the shirt, in that case they would be better getting people will longer names all the time ;)

Guess the one thing thats changable is during re-negotiating time, and the team's marketing people will be able to say - hey look thanks to Pogba / Ronaldo / x or y (big name player) Chevy / Addidas were in the press thanks to Man Utd (or even that x or y player just doing something in his private life) - that old addage - all press is good press - comes to mind as even un-knowingly it gets re-inforced in the brain while seeing the pic / reading the article.

Martial (or Zlatan) in an adidas shirt being on the front cover of Fifa '18 or whatever is probably worth a few million on its own

Completely forgetting about the global market beyond shirts and training kits?

It's even crossed into film advertising now. Where studios happily spend upwards from 300m dollars on the biggest tent pole films marketing campaigns.

Shirt sales was last for a reason, but I'm sure shirt sales would take some noticeable bump from the signing of pogba.

Are you just asking questions for no reason, you realistically don't think a player who lives up to the talent he's shown in 3 years isn't worth the TV money being spent on him? This isn't your pay check being spent on a TV. It's a global brand making an investment
