Lowcostholidays has gone bust

Surely the reason people use firms like this instead of simply arranging it themselves by booking flights and hotels is for the ATOL and ABTA protection?! Why pick a firm which has neither :(

His point is that they are not ABTA or ATOL protected - if this is true, there is almost no chance of getting the money back unless you paid on credit card and the card company can sort it for you.

If you book a holiday with an ABTA or ATOL protected travel firm then in the event of them going bust, ABTA or ATOL step in for you.

Why do people have so much money on paypal in the first place?
Is it to hide income?

Paying via paypal doesnt mean you have loads of money in paypal. I pay by paypal all the time for things and never have any money in there, it just comes from my bank account or credit card.

Why use it when there is an alternative?
I have used paypal to buy a cake, or that sort of thing, as the small business used it as a form of payment, as you both stated, it was from the bank account.

Why would you use it to purchase goods of value from a large company? Such as a holiday? If they don't accept proper forms of payment, I would be asking myself why.
If they do accept them, then why not avail of it on CC, so you are protected if the goods/service never arrives?

why book a holiday through them, i always deal with the airline and the hotel.

It was cheaper than ryanair + booking.com. by about £100.

We have our flight confirmation and tickets etc, we've reserved our seats so worst case is we lose out on the cost of the hotel. I have travel insurance too so can make a claim from that I guess.

It's just a ball ache having to start it all. Surely I'd be protected through PayPal though. That's why I paid that way.
