Hi guys,

I had a thread regarding this a few days ago and settled on https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...rd-with-backplate-11247-03-40g-gx-377-sp.html

However spoken to ocuk to order today and they won't receive any stock until start of August and it's all sold. So I would be waiting even longer for the card to come into stock.

So I'll need to chose another card :(

The closer to the bottom end of my budget proffered but will go to 400 for the right one.

I'm using a 1080p freesync

The only futureproof that exists is selling the card soon before new gen arrives and buying one of those instead for a bit extra. Imo the 480x is a no-brainer if you have freesync, though with your budget you can get close to a 1070. Whether it's worth it to go for the 1070 over the 480x depends on how much you value your £ and how much you care about pushing the settings sliders to the max.

If my monitor wasn't freesync then I would be looking at nvidia more than amd ofc but from what everyone has said freesync makes a noticeable difference even if I achieve lower fps from the amd card it should look better due to the freesync.

I am unfamiliar with how that works to be honest and I have never seen the freesync to confirm that. However, if you can wait then surely a custom 480 is the way to go if you're going with AMD?

I still think a 980 Ti for 350 is the way to go

GTX 1070 is the better buy if you are paying full price right now as it performs better in DX12/Vulcan. Both great cards. Would also consider getting a Fury/Fury X/Nano (less than £300) and almost the same performance as the GTX 1070/GTX 980 Ti (especially in newer dx12 titles).

I think if you order the PowerColor Devil 480 you'll get it fast, I see everyone rushing to buy the Nitro instead, so don't think the queue for it will be that bad.

For under £400 the only choice 980ti.

Well I can think of one that is noticeably better than the 980ti!

And you know that too I suspect. Not only is the 1070 a faster card, be it at stock or oc but its noticeably faster in dx12 titles. This gap will only increase.

It uses a fraction of the power to achieve this and offers better dp support.

Unless you already have a 980ti and wish to sli or you can find one starting with £2xx then it's not a credible choice at under £400!

+1

I'm in the same price bracket but only really tempted by the 1070.

In the vein hope that prices will decrease, I'm biding my time but with great difficulty. :(

I purchased the Zotac 1070 amp edition last night (5p under your budget) and its apparently in stock. The 1070 seems to be a better choice in every way to the card you originally picked and it will compliment the rest of your setup very well.

It's not really, Yes the 1070 is faster but as Digital foundry showed us with the Fury X v 1070 in Doom, When using Vulcan it has the Fury x well ahead by something like 25% meaning the Fury pro would edge a win too, Now while that's only one game and every other game today has the 1070 ahead having a 1080p freesync monitor and looking ahead the Fury will be great for a few years yet, especially with the adaptive sync advantage he loses by getting an Nvidia card with that monitor. So if he plans to stay on a 1080p freesync screen for a couple of years and wants a graphics card that will do a good job for a couple of years it's a good choice, It'd be better with more ram but it will be okay still. If not an 8gb 480 would also compliment the 1080p freesync panel very well and if I was buying today I would go with the 8gb option. If someone wants to spend there game time staring at an fps counter and going "Ooh this is ten frames faster than if I had the other card" then fine pay the extra for a 1070 but actually playing games without an on screen counter and you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference.

I am 100% wanting to stick with amd for the freesync monitor. I did want the fury but can't find stock.

Looks like I might just wait for an aftermarket rx480 as at 1080p this should be sufficient.
