I'm getting a new monitor at the end of the month to replace my ageing 24" 1200p Samsung monitor. I play games but not as much as l used to. Mostly strategy games, RPG's and maybe an FPS game now and then.

I am between the two monitors mentioned in the thread title but the Acer Predator is similar in spec with the Asus MG279Q from the research l have made.

The Samsung is aesthetically more pleasing than the Asus and Acer and lacks speakers, of which l have no use for. It is also the cheapest of the three, but it's limited to 60Hz and lacks Freesync. I current own an Radeon 380 which supports Freesync but from what l know it shouldn't spend much time above 60Hz on 1440p in the latest games anyway.

Is the higher framerate of the Asus and Acer monitors beneficial in scenarios other than gaming; i.e less eye strain? I remember reading something about higher refresh rates being less strenuous on the eyes but that might have been for CRT screens.

Any recommendations are welcomed :D

Edit: Please move this thread to monitors please. I should remember not to post threads when intoxicated. :o

Imo consider going ultra-wide, it's awesome for strategy games. And really look at getting freesync with it, it will help a ton.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately 27" will be more than enough for the space available.

Seems like the Samsung is marketed as a 10-bit monitor as well, but l don't if that will be noticeable. Decisions, decisions.

I have the 32D850T which is exactly the same just bigger.

It's the best monitor I've ever owned and won't be replacing it for a long, long time. It'll really take something spectacular to make me swap. Picture in picture is great when there's footy / F1 / whatever on telly.

From what l have read the 27" is a PLS monitor while the 32" is VA.
