It seems more sensible to me to keep him as a backup to Rooney as #10. It's not like there are players in the squad that will be better than him in that position if Rooney gets injured, Mickytaryan yeah but move him there and your left with Lingard on the wing again.

Sell him to Everton (for example) who can afford him, will pay a decent (ish) price and no wage subsidy............

That relies on him being willing to join Everton and who could blame him for not wanting to join them. I'd also question whether Everton would pay him the same wages he's on at Utd too.

If Mata were to refuse to move to an Everton then Utd would have a choice of paying him off to get him off the books or keep him.

While thats true, its also a relatively local club to where he is now, and with the new investor/owner could well push for top 6 regularly like they were until relatively recently

edit - with Koeman coming in even as they are now they are more likely to be a better side than they displayed for most of last season

Everton will be paying a whole lot more than Espanyol or Valencia thats for certain

compare that to sitting on the bench for a manager who's feelings are pretty obvious (if he is on the bench already) - seems daft to stick around while he still has a decent level of performance left in him

Lingard is a better winger / wide player than Mata (and will cover a lot more for the defender)

and while its still only media talk - there may be more to the Rodriguez than we know about, certainly seem to be "firm" interest even since the start of this summer from Utd, which would then leave Mata as 3rd choice at best

First off don't believe this hype about Everton and their new invester. The guy doesn't even own half the club so I'd be stunned if he put a single penny of his own money into the club. Any Everton will spend will be based on Stones leaving.

As for Mata. It all depends on who's most desperate, Utd or him. He's likely to be on anything from £150k to £200k per week and no club that would want him (excluding some Arab or Chinese club) can or would pay him that. Utd will want to get the most for him and pay him the least but the club that offers that package may not be the club Mata wants to join. It then becomes a case of who blinks first, Mata, Utd or the potential buyers.

Liverpool are after Georginio Wijnaldum according to tonights papers. Newcastle supposedly want £27m for him but we're hopeful that a deal closer to £20m can be agreed this week. He impressed in patches when I saw him last season but I can't say I really saw much of him. Would be interested to know the thoughts of our resident Toon fans on him.

And it looks like we've signed Ragnar Klavan from Augsburg for around £4m. Yea, I have no idea who he is too. Twitter tells me he's a 30 year old CB. With Sakho and Gomez to miss the start of the season we were down to just 2 CB's so we needed somebody.

He owns 49.9% and be all understanding he effectively is running things now. My understanding is that it's just a matter of time before he gets a majority from Kenwright. He also committed to putting in around £100m for transfers, this was even mentioned (by him) in a matchday programme as I recall. I'm still waiting to see any of this money though :/

I began to despise his face towards the end of the season. Not because of his lack of quality but his cowardice. He wouldn't show for the ball, would play easy passes, literally took zero risks, and yet once we were relegated he turned it on against Spurs. Admittedly they were awful but he even took the ball from Townsend so he could take the penalty. Complete 180. Now all of this could be moot because I doubt he's going to be in a relegation fight (unfortunately) so you might not even witness it. If he plays and you make 3-4 decent signings, he'll get you 15+, especially after looking at your squad.

He went missing when Rafa arrived (and before, mind) yet Sissoko clearly upped his game. Neither were good enough but weirdly Moussa gets more stick.

Great player, wonderful talent, superb on the ball, but nobody knows what his true position is. Don't you need a striker?

Regarding Mata, I don't see it happening. While I'd love to see him at Everton I think bigger clubs than us will be interested in him should United sell him. I do see us performing far better next season though. I could easily see us pushing the top 6 again like we did before Martinez made everyone at the club forget how to defend.

Tottenham are interested in Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, according to Sky sources.

It is understood the 21-year-old caught the eye of Spurs scouts while they were looking at former Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea earlier this month.

Reports in France claim a deal of £10.8m has been agreed between the clubs and he will soon fly to London for a medical.

blimey could be 3 in with 0 out so far

I'll believe it when I see it.

I was aware he owns just under half the club but as I said when the investment was first announced, until he owns the club outright I can't see him putting any cash in as equity. He's not going to pump money into the club to benefit the other shareholders and I can't see those other shareholders agreeing to diluting their holding so that the club can buy Mata. A lot got said about Everton seeking investment in the past and various reasons why so many deals broke down but I'm of the view that Everton were never seriously looking because there wasn't any money in it for the shareholders. It's only now, thanks to the new TV deal, that the club is worth something and that's why they cashed in.

Everton will spend this window and not just because Stones looks like leaving as I said but because, like every other club, they've got an extra £50m TV money coming in. In a year or so's time when Everton's accounts are released, I'd bet we don't see any note regarding Moshiri injecting any cash into the club.

From the little I saw he did look a patchy player that at times looked great and others you didn't notice him. The point about his attitude is interesting because he sounds completely at odds to the type of player Klopp likes - I can't see a Klopp player downing tools but then again Klopp is the type of manager that players play for.

I was going to ask you what's his position because he seemed to play everywhere for you - there were times he played centre mid if I'm not mistaken but also wide and even up front? We had been after this Polish lad from Udinese who was supposed to be a bit of a utility midfielder come attacking mid too but that deal looks dead now.

As for needing a striker. Even when Balotelli and Benteke leave we're still going to be left with Sturridge, Origi, Ings and then Firmino and Mane can play there too. Without Europe and with having so many attacking midfield options I think that's enough. We could do with another out and out CM and a LB though. We've got a lot of players that can play CM but only really Can that's a natural there - the likes of Henderson and Milner can play in a 3 but I'm not sure they're suited to the 2 man midfield Klopp plays.

Ings seems to be playing well so I would give him a few weeks at the start of the season. Wijnaldum certainly has quality, but as above, he goes missing several times a season.

Ings started off last pre-season in good form too, then he got injured.

Let's just hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Negredo medical today, he didn't travel with Valencia and is instead joining up with the Boro squad in Marbella. Ramirez work permit also through.

Latest name linked - Adnan Januzaj. Early doors with that one but Karanka clearly using his Mourinho links again :)

Wjndalum or what he is called is supposedly on his way to liverpool, Doesnt do much for myself and rather we spent on solid midfielder then a player from newcastle who like rest of team did sod all for a year and went into hiding.

The defender i know nothing about so i cant judge but we need one since ours are dropping out injured all ready :(
