What have you done to your car today?

looks good, mine's very reflective as is! never mind having a convertible.

was looking at making a custom one too but haven't bothered yet with the amount of sunshine we get.

If you do go for a cutting one down (Far better IMO, you get a much wider choice and very cost effective, not to mention you can make it a much nicer fit by tailoring to your exact bezel size), I tried many methods of cutting, scissors, roller type paper cutter, Guillotine etc and found getting it really accurate quite hard, then I found the Mrs has a fiskars paper cutter, it has little blades that you slide along, and the good thing with that is the blade channel is see-through so you can really get mm accuracy, and allows you to easily shave off 0.5mm if you need to, something almost impossible with the other cutting methods..

I'd have thought the most accurate would be an xacto scalpel and a metal rule.

That's the method I usually use when cutting down "generic" screen protectors.

I think my skills failed for me using this method. I quickly tried, but using a standard cutting mat, I'd need to clamp the rule very tightly as the protectors are quite thick, sliding under the rule far too easily..

The Fiskars cutter is probably more accurate IMO since you have a perfect 1mm gap to look through to align on the work and a nice work guide/clamp with end stops to locate the piece, by far the easiest for me! I was also able to shave off 0.5mm at a time to get it trimmed perfectly without any problems at all, something I also struggle to do when going for a perfect flush fit.

And the Zafira EML is back on again - same code :(

Currently engaging dealer to see if my car has two coolant temperature sensors (as one has already been replaced), but the Radiator fan does not seem to come on above the correct temperature (and if it's used by the ECU for fueling information, would surely contribute to the Lean code)

Not sure if anyone else knows? (Car is an '09 Zafira B - 105bhp 1.6, not sure which engine code or how to tell, but believe it's either Z16XEP or Z16XE1)

Tested the brakes when someone pulled out in front of me on a mini roundabout after blatantly looking in my direction first. When I raised my hand in a "what the **** are you playing at?!" gesture she shouted out of her window "MY RIGHT OF WAY" and sounded like she genuinely believed it too.

Was too astounded to inform her what an idiot she is.

Happens to me all the time. Most recently a motorcycle pulled out in front of me and then proceeded to stop and tell me that I was in the wrong. I come across so many people who are well over the central reservation on narrower roads, pull out at rounds abouts in front of me or go through red lights that I rarely get angry these days. The only ones I do get really angry at are the red light jumpers since it would be one big accident the speed that some of them do it with.

Indicators seem non existent now too.

Do you not find that RBF600 eats away at the piston o-ring seals?

This will be the first time I've used it as I had ATE Super Blue in my last car but didn't like how it stained the brake system. Plenty of my friends have used RBF600 for many years in their track cars and are yet to report any issues :)

Took the S-Max in for an MOT. Failed, but only on brakes - otherwise all is good. Was quoted £390 for the garage to do front and rear discs and pads all round so I politely declined. Picked up all 4 discs and 2 sets of pads for £180, so saving £210 by doing it myself, not bad.

Of course, finding another garage to do it cheaper is another option but I might as well just do it myself.

Sorted the brake noise. Heavy braking cured it. I do however need a new rear caliper as the dust boot has disintegrated. It works fine but it can wait a few weeks till I get paid.

Next job is to flush the fluid (ECP had a Friday offer on Brembo fluid) and fit the upper torque mount and lower engine mount that have been lying around for a while.

Then a remap.

Fitted my FMIC last week and changed air intake position to directly behind grill. Also stripped all aircon off as intercooler pipework would not fit with AC still installed. Weighed a ton and made the oil filter a nightmare to change. Going to ring up and book mapping session tomorrow.

Took the dealer advertising sticker out of the rear window, luckily it peeled off nice and easy.

And fitted some new wheel trims, the ones that were on were boring and held on with cable ties.

Found out I have an electric tyre inflator as part of the M Mobility kit, I was so close to buying one from Halfrauds as well....

Swear I never noticed it before. It was still wrapped and had the display seal. So never been used. It also has a deflate button, something many in shops don't have.

Went home and pumped my tyres up, then checked with a digital gauge to make sure the values were close enough.

Then unboxed my new DEPO rear lights.

Just kidding they're OEM.

To replace the old one with 3 failed LEDs:

Glad I got the pair, as the new one has a slightly more yellow tinted turn signal LED grid.

The tail light LEDs also appear slightly brighter than the older ones. New ones made in 2015, old ones 2005. 10 years of LED fade I guess. Should be able to sell the non faulty old cluster for a good sum, and the faulty one for a bit of spare cash.

Trialled some anti-glare screen protector on the new headunit.. I bought the Anker iPad screen protectors to cut down, so quickly cut a piece off and stuck it on the screen for a side by side comparison, then put the roof down, and went for a spin to see if it actually worked.

I'm glad to say that for once, it exceeded expectations.. so quickly cut out a proper sized piece and covered the entire screen, it's actually very usable now with the roof down!

Excellent. Guess what I'm buying tonight :p
