German train 'axe attack'

The thing is it really is a minority of those who have come who are causing such atrocities so I'm not convinced it can be blamed on the lack of law and order or culture of their home countries or surely there'd be a lot more of it?

It's a tricky issue because, at least in my experience through those that I know from Middle-Eastern and African countries, many come to the UK to escape the very oppressive cultures that we are talking about. Let's not pretend that everyone is like that, though.

I'm not clever enough to figure out how we carry on offering opportunities to the former without risking the odd psychopath slipping through the net.

That's rather a binary way to look at it. I know a number of people who are in their 30s and smoke cigarettes - they are alive don't fancy their chances longterm. I take it you spend money on PC stuff as you are on these forums. Do you not upgrade a GFX card if it gives a % increase to what you have at the moment. So surely you accept increases do have a relevance. If something is more statistically likely to cause problems then one has to weigh the benefit of the increased problems compared to what one may gain.

Now Germany, and notably Merkel, has this stupid ingrained guilt for things those people didn't do. They also have a labour force shortage. So I guess they need to look at how badly they need industrial labour and how much more they are willing to tolerate. Now looking at what they say about the labour shortage and what they hush up about immigrant crimes I am wagering profit is more important to the government than the safety of their citizens.

This is true, but it still wouldn't happen if they weren't here. It easy to say it's only a minority, but not so easy once you've been directly effected.

Regardless of how small the numbers are, unless the frequency of these incidents has a marked reduction, it will leave the political systems in the countries affected open to politicians who are willing to offer solutions. Even distasteful ones.

Don't worry folks, Thousands more incidents like this to come from the death cult over the course of our lifetimes.

So it was in the name of Islam.
All to predictable.

As said, there are only a few who do this, but it's pretty clear that most of these are based around a warped idea of islam and what goes with it.

And yep, at some point you do have to. Look to. Protect yourself.

Such a sorry state of affairs, human beings really are pretty disgusting creatures

Bit like this forum though, mention anything against Ramadan and it's an automatic post deletion, because it might offend
You just have problems with brown people. Remember that time you tried to justify calling an Asian person a "****" because they didn't give you what you wanted when you called BT's Asian call centre?

You've used loads of words to not really say anything

I can play along. Tis GD after all.

Well that's one way of looking it another way would be to say that if the chances are low from a certain point of view but also massively high from another point of view.

Now I am guessing if a meteor hit this planet there would be significant death. I am also guessing if a dirty bomb got set of there would be significant death. Now although both events are unlikely to happen the very high nature of the problems they would cause mean one has to not treat them flippantly and actually take them seriously if there is shown to be a possibility they "may" occur. One would expect contingency plans to be made and implemented. Should we await for such an event crouching in fear - no - but should be accept a slide to such events and not try and stamp them out at their root source - then also no.

How many meteors need to destroy your house for you to deem it unsafe? At what civil and material cost would you develop a contingency plan to alleviate your fear? Will it address your fear, or the route cause of the destruction? Is it effective, or just making you feel safe? Will it stop a meteor from finding you outside your home, or should you move altogether?

If we knew what caused a man to charge people with an axe in Germany or walk into a pub in Hull with a chainsaw, things would've been simple, predictable. We don't. And things aren't so simple. Which is why our justice is reactive, and whatever proactive measures exist, do so in proportion to the level of society, privacy and freedom we wish to have. Ascribing cause to religion, ethnic group, immigration status or social class based on a copy-pasted account of a specific case in the media, I always find a generalisation too far; particularly when solutions offered off the back of such generalisation are directed towards attacking minorities or stripping everyones' human rights, for whatever 'greater good' there is.

I'm not sorry to say that I don't have 'the fear'. But other posters can have fun with theirs.

Dear Mr datalol-jack,

On behalf of myself and my clients, the general population of GD, we kindly ask you to cease and desist making sensible, reasoned and thoughtful posts and allow us to continue airing our prejudices without question or retort.

If you do not cease these activities we may have no option but to inform Mumsnet of your exceedingly poor behaviour. Believe me when I say you don't want that bunch of sandwich-makers coming after your ass.

Kind regards,

LFF & Associates.

Fair enough. :p

But for the record, I'd executed Project Cassandra on Mumsnet for a good few months during the referendum. Undercover like.

Concidering we let anyone who turns up on a beach or jumps out of a lorry on the m25 or indeed walks thru the damn tunnell that any non "refugee" would have been instantly arrested and put in prision for claim asylum here i think were pretty screwed anyway.

You know once caught they get sent to detention centres until their application is processed right?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_detention

The British Home Office has a number of detention centres, including, As of January 2015, 11 designated Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs), four designated Residential and Short Term Holding Facilities and one Non Residential Short Term Holding Facility. Four of the IRCs are managed by the Prison Service and the others are outsourced to private companies including Mitie, GEO Group, G4S and Serco. People can be detained under Immigration Act powers for a number of reasons. The largest category of detainees is people who have claimed asylum. Other people include those detained awaiting determination of their right to entry to the UK, people who have been refused permission to enter and are awaiting removal, people who have overstayed the expiry of their visas or have not complied with their visa terms, and people lacking the required documentation to live in the UK.[32]

What does this have to do with the free/common market? If he was a refugee then he has no right to come to the UK. ;)

More importantly we will keep taking in refugees, women, children and adults, as per our international obligations, in or out of the EU; single market access or not. Brexit was never about dumping foreign aid and our humanitarian causes.

I it all about labour shortages though?

There was an interesting article I read the other day:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...nce-uk-host-9-per-cent?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Six wealthiest countries host less than 9% of world's refugees

The six wealthiest countries in the world, which between them account for almost 60% of the global economy, host less than 9% of the world’s refugees, while poorer countries shoulder most of the burden, Oxfam has said.

According to a report released by the charity on Monday, the US, China, Japan, Germany, France and the UK, which together make up 56.6% of global GDP, between them host just 2.1 million refugees: 8.9% of the world’s total.

Of these 2.1 million people, roughly a third are hosted by Germany (736,740), while the remaining 1.4 million are split between the other five countries. The UK hosts 168,937 refugees, a figure Oxfam GB chief executive, Mark Goldring, has called shameful.

Should we not be doing something more to help people? Why should poor countries be forced to take on this huge issue while we sit quietly in our silver castles doing very little.

Yes, there are problems with huge numbers of refugees entering Germany (for example) but we should be doing something more. Just pledging a small amount of money (and then not actually giving it) isn't enough.

We spend our time complaining about the small number of refugees we get, and the occasional crime (that is broadcast nationwide when it happens), but what about all these other countries with millions of refugees, and little money to actually help. Perhaps a worldwide refugee program where real money is actually given to help people. The billions needed wouldn't please a lot of people but it would help. If you can increase the conditions in refugee camps/even out the refugee load then perhaps people won't travel thousands of miles at their own fruition to get to somewhere they can get a roof over their hear, get a job and not have to sell their children into marriage just to get them enough food to survive.

No but it could be stopping immediate access to benefits from all the newly 'European' immigrants.

Edit: in reply to datalol-jack

Re the just above, I do get the feeling over time the richest countries would all start thinning the gap if we continue the way we are.
