The target to reduce net migration to below 100,000 has been abandoned by the new Government

Does this get filed under #Takebackcontrol

In the way we can control the borders to let even more people in? ;)

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

The tens of thousands commitment was a joke to begin with, a Cameronist big lie that he had not intention of delivering on - it wasn't even in his gift to make that promise in the first place since the bulk of our immigration policy is set in Brussels. That commitment is tainted now and it's right that the new government should scrap it and come up with something else.

Oh really....shame then the populous didn't hold him to account for that and vote him out at the last election then, because that's what all this getting back sovereignty was about, wasn't it?

Being able to vote out our politicians when they don't live up to their promises...

We voted him out in the Brexit rebellion instead

Even before the vote people pointed out that voting leave is about controlling migration and not demolishing it. Have you had you ears and eyes glued shut the whole time :D

Even with the debate done and dusted you're still arguing irrelevancies that were never the goal in the first place for ego brownies? File under #LostThePlot??? Remainers

It was always stupid. But since more than half of immigration comes from non-EU countries, it was always the case that immigration was more under Cameron's control than not.

That commitment is tainted now and it's right that the new government should scrap it and come up with something else.

If the new government is claiming it's legitimacy from a mandate gained under that manifesto, how far can it go while still claiming legitimacy?

Nobody knew he'd go for certain though, especially considering he said he'd stay on.

I did, in fact I distinctly remember posting several times that Cameron's position as PM would be untenable in the event of a Leave vote. So too did several senior politicians.

It was hardly untenable when the Brexit politicians were begging him to stay....

When did this happen? Who begged him to stay? He resigned within hours, I doubt he was taking many phone calls between the result becoming apparent and his resignation speech.

NHS spending pledge and the net migration pledges both broken, never going to happen in the first place. Did the Tories follow through with that ridiculous pledge of enshrining into law no increase in certain taxes, I believe to be carried out within the first 100 days of government?

Immediately after the result was announced, the Brexit side took to twitter and rallied round DC saying how he was the man in charge now to take them forward

I can't do any links atm as the internet isn't playing ball

Well we have very low migration where i live, its rare to ever see anybody none white (maybe once every 6 months)

Yet my area voted massively to leave and the people i know who I talked to about this all said they voted leave cause they dont want those Muslims coming here.

It's scary isn't it. People who have little to no experience of immigration voting against it, whereas, for the most part, those of us that live, work and hang out with immigrants on a daily basis have no issues at all. The thing I'm most proud about of being British, and I'm particularly talking about London here, is how you see every colour, religion, sexual orientation etc walking down the street and it isn't weird. There's no hassle and finger pointing, just people getting on with their day. There's very few places on this planet that can boast this and it's truly a brilliant, progressive thing. And living amongst this all the time it's easy to forget that things different elsewhere. I've been to a few places in England, just a few hours drive away, with coloured friends and they get funny looks from people in the street. It's crazy, like going back in time 50 years.

I have no personal vendetta against individual people who have immigrated to the UK, but I worry how we have an ever increasing population, with successive governments since ~1992 that have been doing far too little to sort out house renting and house buying prices for those on lower than UK average household incomes.

The overall UK population has grown by ~10 million since 1992, but where have been the extra houses to cope with this increase, which allow low income individuals/families to have a decent standard of living without serious debt?

In my opinion, you don't let the population increase via net positive migration, if you cannot house your native population properly and leave them with a decent amount of disposable income after having a roof over their heads, paying utility services and filling their belly.

According to the above, we have the 9th biggest net immigration total and we are nothing like the 9th biggest country in the world by area. Very scary reading regarding where the UK is heading in my opinion, if nothing is changed.

I realise that immigration is not the whole rent/buying problem, but it is part of it.

Not good. 56% of German biz executives say UK should be "deprived of ALL benefits of EU membership"

This certainly fits with the mood on the ground I'm hearing from pretty much every EU national I know*: their view is that the UK has been the spoilt child of the EU for years and now we've voted for out we should just be out and see how we like it. With elections coming up across Europe I fear that we will not find the Brexit negotiations easy, especially after antagonising everyone by appointing Boris as our Foreign Secretary. At least May had the good sense and grace to withdraw from the rotating presidency.

Exactly what millions of people were worried about and still are.

1 million on the council house waiting list.

Where is everyone going to live?

I don't think housing was addressed at all in the campaign.
