Gaming at 1440p from 1080p - worth it??

1440P is fantastic, You can only really get a sense of how much it improves things in the flesh.

Once you try 1440P then go back to 1080P you quickly realise the difference is quite large.

I dunno, I preferred a higher fps than a better resolution, which is less noticeable than the lower fps. 1440 is quite a big hit on performance, more than I expected.

Out of curiosity I tried 1080 on my 28' monitor .... dear lord I wish I could un-see what I've seen. Ran away scared.

Not to come across as an ass, but it sounds like you already have a higher res monitor and tried lowering the res from native down to 1080p.. so of course it's going to look worse than it should, because it's scaling and interpolating. Current monitors aren't like CRT's where any res looks as it should.

yeah, I know :) You can see what I use in my sig, had it a year and half now, fantastic monitor, although quite expensive.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

A lot of people have said DSR/VSR on 1080p is a massive jump in quality... but also it will show you if your current setup is man enough to handle 1440p.

I would be tempted to try DSR/VSR before splashing out.

4k dsr makes assetto corsa and fsx look increible.

Far cry 4 looks shocking though...nowhere near as nice as 1080

Arma 3 to try next

Ah right didn't know, thought it was just for checking main specs of your PC, yeah the Swift is still pretty expensive.

How do 1080p videos look at 1440p? I've only read online that HD blu rays apparently look good on 4K TV's when upscaled, better than DVD's do when shown on HD TV's at least.

I agree with that statement. I do have a huge 4k TV as well and blu rays look absolutely amazing, much better than my previous HD Tv. I just wish there was more 4k content, but let's not go there :)

1080p videos, I am not sure to be honest, I am not watching any. Netflix and Prime are both HD quality and look very good and upscaled blu rays amazing.

It's hard to describe but the difference a good monitor makes is huge. That monitor also has 3D and while that tech hasn't really caught up, there are a few games which run in 3D. Aion is one example and playing in 3D is a completely different experience. I am tempted these days to buy another of those monitors, it's simply that good. Asus support was amazing. I had an issue and my first monitor died, within a week they came to my door, picked it up, delivered another, no questions asked.

Using DSR I can't tell much difference between 1080p & 1440p TBH, but going to 1620p..woah, night and day.

Real shame that it didn't become the go to resolution after 1080p IMO, much better than 1440p as that still needs Anti Aliasing to hide the jaggies, but 2880x1620 really is where AA starts to become unnecessary.
