Hi all,

I've just done the above and was wondering what I should do now lol.
I wasn't planning this far ahead :D

I'll have a HD6870 to play with in the meantime since all I play is CSGO.
I currently have a 24" 1080p TN 144Hz monitor but have been planning on upgrading it for a while now.
Something along the lines of 1440p/144Hz either TN or IPS, not sure on Gsync/Freesync yet.

My monitor choice will most likely be decided by what's on the horizon and what I can get now.

Nvidia are overpriced atm apart from last gen, and AMD apart from the Fury Nitro, nothing else seems good?

I don't see myself going for a 1080Ti/Titan X just in case anyone wants me to wait for those lol.

So any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't need to wait long for the new Titan X - get one. Do it properly, get a Titan X.

Sorry, :).
Not overpriced IMO but not exactly cheap but seeing as they're selling well, therefore fairly priced. A 1070 or 1080 will probably last you a while.

Just stick with your 6870 until you see a game you wanna play that requires a bit more oomph.

Hanging on to my 7950 until prices get reasonable again.

My lad still uses my old 7950 they are still a half decent card.
I upgraded to a 2nd hand 970 though and I saw a good jump in performance

was using one of my mates 780ti's for a few days while my 970 was away under warranty. there a really good card if it wasn't so noisy I would seriously consider one over the 970 as it seemed to have the edge

Have a 6870 right now as well, and it's horrible coming from a GTX 980 Ti. Can't even get 300fps constant in cs:go at 1440p with everything on low. :p Had to buy a second hand 290x because I couldn't handle the drops anymore (should also be decent enough for upcoming dx12 titles).

+1

That way more options will be available and prices of some will hopefully have leveled out a bit lower than now.

I'm thinking this, but it worries me whether it'll be able to output 144fps constantly?

Mine had one of the beefier coolers so was able to keep fan speed down.

No, don't tell me that haha. Need my constant 144Hz.

Thanks peeps, looks like I'll keep the 6870 for a while then, was planning on putting it in a second machine.

Might start looking at a new monitor instead :o

Looks like the 6870 was a dud!

Need a new card asap.

Can get the 1060 new or 980Ti for around the same price.

Or splurge out on the 1070 and put it on the CC...

980 Ti if you want to save some money. The EVGA ACX is going for an excellent price at £340 right now here on OCUK.

The 1070 is on par with the 980 Ti but will have greater longevity because of its extra VRAM and increased DX12 capabilities if you plan to keep it for many years.

780Ti to a 980Ti was a big jump in performance and would be worth a look at that price or a 1070 is good for power and heat, so another good shout. The 1060 Vs 480 isn't much to sing about for either except the price point. If you was looking to get a new monitor, either ties you in to their brand (Freesync/Gysync), so choose your GPU wisely.

yea ive been looking at the 980ti and also the 1070 and cant decide...

I play at 1080p so the vram in the 980ti would deal with anything I need but the 1070 will be better at dx12 games.. its a hard choice

My feelings right now are to get a 980Ti second hand at a keen price, or splurge on the 1070.

OP, if you can get a 980Ti for the price of a 1060 I'd go for that!

Get monitor first, then graphic card.
There are good options for both, however if you consider NVidia/Gsync be ready to splash more money than AMD/Freesync.

If you wait and money not issue, there is a good lineup of quantum dot monitors coming from Samsung with curves, freesync etc.

Otherwise if in hurry, you can buy Freesync 1080p monitor and RX480 4GB Nitro for £300-320 total, or £350-370 if you upgrade to the RX 8GB Nitro.
(prices include any of the two AOC Freesync monitors).

Definitely trying to get a 980ti at decent price.

My priority now is the gpu as I have nothing at all, 6870 just doesn't work.

Bought the 980Ti from the MM :D

Woke up this morning and was like, I want the 1070, but not as much as £110...

It'll cost about £50 more when the time for me sell up in 2 years time.
I'll just do the same with this and the 1080ti.
Plus this one still has 2 years warranty left.
