Shots Fired in Munich Shopping Centre

Yep. Closer inspection reveals it isn't the same guy who was at McDonald's + a black guy (as I initially thought).

Was it just that picture then? If so we've only really got confirmation of one gunman which leaves the right wing nutter possibility open.

It depends on the situation. A lot of special forces around the world simply don't have the experience or level of training that the SAS/SBS has.

On occasions the SAS do give tactical advice and they also have been used instead of the countries own because of the lack of experience they have.

The US have used the SAS instead of their own on a few occasions, one was saving a diplomat I think.

That said a situation like this wouldn't need the SAS and will all be handled in house.

Super Army Soldiers?

Munich police are saying there are no indications that this was an Islamic terrorist attack at this time..

Maybe it's a Brevik wannabe?

Murder suicide is a possibility tbh.

There is a video here of some people shouting/swearing at the shooter on the roof in German, before he starts shooting (I think). All very confusing. There is an English translatrion, but the shooter is definitely speaking native german.

(The video is from ******** so I prefer not to link it directly.)

Dunno why it's not been mentioned here or on BBC or sky news yet

They spoke about it at length on Sky a few minutes ago.

He said 'I am German, I was born here' and also that he had been raised on 'benefits' (paraphrased - he was speaking German!)

It was mentioned on BBC, about an hour ago. Unconfirmed reports he said "I am German".

I wont be surprised if schengen is halted for an indefinite period in the next few years, if only to stop AFP, FN and such gaining popularity.

Not that it would do anything, as its very much too late.

Can you explain how a country with a budget as large as the US would need to use the SAS on any occasion other than the SAS being closest? Why would the SAS have technical abilites greater than that of a country that has a bigger budget and more people?

What has side and budget got to do with anything?

It was in Afghanistan and it was a CIA agent not diplomat. The US provided the Intel but they requested the SAS to execute to operation to retrieve him due to the US special forces not having the experience and they clearly wanted the.p best to attempt it.

It was successful and Bush wanted the guys honoured but I think we said no.

The US have a far larger force than us and a far larger budget yet man for man our soldiers are considerably better trained throughout all ranks. Their marines are about on par with our basic army for a start.
