Hi all,i currently own a i5 4670k oc to 4.2 and am looking for a GPU upgrade.

My question is whether to upgrade to a Gtx 1080 with my current cpu
or to upgrade my cpu to a i7 4790k (i have a socket 1150) and upgrade my GPU to a Gtx 1070?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Do you think I should wait a few weeks, does anybody think the price of the 1080,s will drop anytime soon? Ocuk prices seem...a little high compared to some competitors.

Question should be i5 and 1070 or i7 and 1080

Both the i5 and 1070 offer better value for money.

The i7 and 1080 offer the last bit of extra performance but it comes with a hefty price tag.

OP do you want a VFM PC or an out and out performance one ?

There is no point in mixing the two like you want to do.

Hi guys thanks..monitor is 2k I'm not looking at going to 4K anytime soon.

Kaapstad great points mate..I'm looking at a rig that can play modern games at a steady 60fps (monitor refresh rate) at 1440p at top detail. I currently own the i5 4670k,I'm wondering as to whether to sell this and purchase the i7. What about purchasing a 1080 now and upgrading the CPU in a few months? Thanks guys for any advice.

If I was you I'd spend a couple of weeks doing lots of posting so I could visit the MM for the those selling there 1080's and 1070's to buy a Pascal Titan.

Why? He already has the i5 and a 1440p monitor so either card will go with it great.

Thanks guys..I think im gonna grab a 1080 then in a few months upgrade my cpu to the i7 4790k.
I know now that the 1070 would do a sterling job but..knowing me i also know that a few months down the line il end up kicking myself and wished then that,d gone for the 1080. Just like im kicking myself for getting the i5 in the first place instead of the i7 :)
Thanks again all for all your comments and advice.
Appreciated

I5 1080. This is obvious choice. Clock the i5 to 4.5+, done. Infact even 6400 none k enough.....

personally I'd get the i7 as the cpu is more of a pain in the *** to swap out and upgrade, get the best you can A afford and B are willing to spend on a CPU, and get the 1070, you'll be better off that way and when 1080 Ti comes out or whatever they're going to do call the next card after this Titan card, the 1080 prices will have come down and grab one then?
