It's Wenger wanting to play the new 2/7/1 formation he's been trying to play for years. Or perhaps he's just getting in players to cover for the three to five serious injuries Arsenal have every season, without fail.

I find that link highly doubtful. Don't be surprised if we only sign a LB now. Wer'e stocked up with attacking mids and there's seemingly no interest in bringing a CM in now that Dahoud's a non starter.

We could do with a CM too but as I suspected the other day, it looks like the signing of Wijnaldum and possibly keeping Lucas means we're not going to sign somebody just to fill the role, it's either the right player or nobody.

There's going to be a lot of players leaving between now and deadline day though. The 3 you mentioned plus at least Allen, Alberto and Flanagan.
 
Yea, we're signing a LB. It's being reported that we've received a £6m bid from Bournemouth for Brad Smith :eek:

£6m for 1 good cross vs Southampton.

edit: sounds like we've got a buyback and sell-on clause in there too. Not sure they'll ever been triggered, he's ****.
 
We would get 15mil for Markovic...not only that but Sporting who want him have some handy players.

Markovic isnt and will not ever be good enough, id rather time was spent on Ojo, Origi, Kent,Ejaria etc

We already have two players on the way back from ACL injuries, not sure we want a third.

As for a RB, that was my initial thought too when I heard the Flanangan news. It all depends on how highly Klopp rates Randall. I'm not convinced he'll ever be good enough myself. We've got Gomez that can play there and there's been no news on Wisdom as yet although I suspect he'll be sold or loaned out again.

He just isn't good enough so worst happens he value drops further plus he won't get in the team over countinho,firminho,mane,lallana,wjnaldum so may as well let him go. This is of course my opinion klopp may think different but I'd be very surprised if he is with us past this window. Only person I don't think we should sell is flanno
 
I feel a bit sorry for Markovic. He was never given a real chance by Rodgers in his first season and then shipped out in his second. I think his opportunity with us has been and gone now but I do think things could have maybe turned out differently had he been trusted more when he first signed.
 
Skrtel had a shocking season, Ibe flattered to deceive, Smith and and Sinclair hardly played yet we're close to getting £30 million for them. Not bad for players we didn't want or need. Hopefully see Markovic, Allen and Benteke gone before too long and we could end up spending less than we receive this summer :eek:
 
£2.5m for Canos too. Supposedly we want £7m for Luis Alberto as well. Every summer you can list a load of players you want to sell but more often than not you just can't shift them. This summer we're finding buyers for everybody and they're paying top money for them too.

You can see why our £7m offer for the Leicester LB was turned down though.
 
He's supposed to be considering a loan offer from Burnley. The fact that he didn't travel to the US with the squad (Smith did) suggests he's off.
 
A loan move would be wise for him tbh with Clyne making an impact while he was out injured. Didn't he only come back with a few games left last season?
 
Not long into the new year iirc. He was bombed out after a dreadful performance vs Southampton and barely featured again though. At the very best he was only ever going to be cover for Clyne but it looks like Klopp prefers Randall to him.
 
So at the moment you've pretty much got;

RB: Clyne, Randall
LB: Moreno, Gomez, Smith
CB: Matip, Sakho, Lovren, Klavan

I'm guessing that new cb is to just replace Kolo. Matip & Sakho/Lovren first choice?

Definitely a bit light at LB when Moreno can't defend for toffee.
 
More like:

RB: Clyne, Randall, Gomez
LB: Moreno, Gomez Klavan
CB: Matip, Sakho, Lovren, Gomez, Klavan

We definitely need a LB and I'm sure we'll sign one. As for Klavan, Klopp gave an interview today/yesterday and was very clear than he was coming to compete on an level playing field with the other CB's, not simply coming as cover.
