GTX 1080 Advice Required

that is a great monitor indeed you can run 3600 x 2100 on that not just 2560 x 1440p. I've got an older TN Rog Swift and it's amazing still.

In terms of 4k there will be some newer gen monitors coming out, I would not recommend even considering any of the current 4k screens.

gtx 1080 is expensive but it has the power to run anything you throw at it and will be top notch for years. You can more than likely get away with a 1070 as well, if you fancy spending a bit less. I would not buy any card with 4gb right now, regardless of discounts.

You should be fine with a new and cheap 980 TI ( these dropped in price like crazy )/ 1070 / 1080.

But that is false the 1080 won't run anything you throw at it. The 1080 can't do Witcher 3 at 4k at a constant 60, which is why I recommend he waits.

that's not a 4k monitor he's buying. There is no single card out there which can do 4k at 60 fps, maybe the Titan X can but it's priced way too high.

With a setup like this, just stay on 1440p and you're laughing for the next several years.

I see you get replies from the likes of Gregster that basically leads you towards the 1080, but for some reason refuses to ask you the hard questions.

Like what resolution do you game at? Are you looking for a GPU that lasts you into the next few years at said resolution?

Beware of asking questions from fans of a specific card in this forum as you will soon see some fanboy behaviour.

.

Lol wtf?

That's what I'm saying. Get the 1440p monitor at the deal on the fury and you are set until a real 4k card comes out at which point better and cheaper 4k IPS monitors will be out.

Mate it's okay to waste your own money, but do you honestly believe the 1080 is for him? Look he can get a nitro fury and the above linked monitor for the price of ONE 1080! Seems you are wanting him to get what YOU would get and not what he needs. Not to mention the monitor I linked is IPS 144hz!

I give advice depending on what the OP asks. If he wanted to limit himself to 4GB of VRAM and get an outdated card that is much much slower, I am sure he would have asked :)

I owned a Fury X for the record and it can't touch my 1080.

Ohhh and if the OP is interested, I did some tests on a few games at 1440P with everything set to max.

Not much more I can add really.

the guy just said he wants to stay with Nvidia and told you what monitor he wants as well. Why do you keep pushing him to buy Freesync and a 4 gb very expensive AMD card?

Valid points, but the OP stated in post 16 he's going Nvidia.

This should have been in the OP's 1st post to save any confusion.

As for a real 4K card, I can't see that from either vendor for quite some time.:(

I didn't read the post where he said he wanted to stay with Nvidia. Even so brand loyalty is silly when you should go with what you need and not what isn't worth your money or time. I didn't try and push it on him k suggested 980ti first!

So sorry okay if he wants Nvidia then 980ti with a cheap TN gsync 1440p monitor.

Yup sorry missed that part of post 16! Oops! I would still not buy a 1080 and go for a 980ti...

What is the confusion? Has anyone read the thread title? :p

Yes but does that mean he needs a 1080? Honestly how can people not understand this? I could read an article and think " wow I ant this " without thinking if I NEED it... He's since stated he wants to play at 1440p and wasn't aware that is a attainable with a cheaper 980ti.

nobody NEEDS anything. Nobody NEEDS a Rog Swift but they are amazing quality and some people want that.

All we can do is provide a little advice and experience of our own with a similar set of products which I can do since I actually have a Rog Swift and a 1080.

In the end the OP will decide what he will buy regardless of what we say :)

But he wants a 1080, which is why he posted this thread in the first place.

I just wonder how you would respond if in any thread about people asking which RX480 to buy someone came in suggesting a NVidia 750ti instead.

I know this is a bit outside of the purpose of this thread but the monitor I have is a 3D one. While the 3D never really caught up there are some games which run in 3D. Running Aion for example, in 3D is an experience that cannot be described easily. It' amazing though, absolutely amazing.
